Words from FIBA CEO & President, David Schwartz: Dear FIBA Members, It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Dr. John Zdanowicz, Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Academic Department of Finance at FIU, and a dedicated member of our FIBA Education Committee. Dr. Zdanowicz passed away on June 20, 2024, after battling COPD. Dr. Zdanowicz was a pioneering figure in the field of finance, renowned for his groundbreaking research on illicit financial flows through international trade, notably coining the phrase "Trade-Based Money Laundering - TBML." His contributions spanned decades, starting in 1990 and continuing until his recent passing. He was also the Financial & International Business Association (FIBA) Professor of Finance, and a valued member of our community, consistently supporting FIBA through his insightful presentations at our conferences over the years. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Dianne, and his entire family during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held in New York at a later date, and we will share further details once available.

Thank you to Terry Hughes and Ann Michelle Palecki from the The Florida Office of Financial Regulation for an informative discussion on concerns related to House Bill 989. Kudos to Marina Olman and Peter Rahaghi for a great job moderating and special thanks to Shutts & Bowen LLP for hosting. We're very appreciative of the long standing public/private partnership between FIBA and the OFR that we've enjoyed for more than 40 years and look forward to many more events together!
