About us

FIGG Bridge Group (FIGG) is a family of companies specializing in the design, management, and construction engineering and inspection of major bridges and bridge projects. FIGG Bridge Builders, a separate construction company, provides construction management and precasting of bridges. Since 1978, FIGG companies have been pioneers in the bridge industry, creating sustainable designs that blend timeless artistry and engineering. Form and beauty are applied with the technical solution to express the individuality of the people and places the FIGG-designed bridge will serve. FIGG bridges have received more than 430 design awards including three Presidential Awards through the National Endowment for the Arts, an honor only awarded to five bridges. FIGG bridges have been featured on the covers of over 300 magazines and publications, including 15 Engineering News-Record covers for innovation and economy; on History Channel/Modern Marvel specials; in a National Geographic special; and in documentaries and books presenting the world’s most spectacular bridges. In May 2006, Roads & Bridges magazine selected the top 25 bridges of all time. In the time since FIGG began operations, the list included 14 bridges, six of which are FIGG Bridge designs.

Segments from the Past! A look into our construction archive finds construction photos of the I-15/US-95 Interchange in Las Vegas, Nevada. This interchange, known as the Spaghetti Bowl, was reconstructed under traffic using precast segmental construction for four fly-over ramps. The ramps vary in length from 1,771’ to 2,437’, with a total of 59 spans erected with an overhead gantry. Spans range from 100’ to 212’. FIGG performed independent reviews of the design for Nevada Department of Transportation and provided engineers and technicians at the site to assist NDOT with construction inspection. #civilengineering #transportation #bridge #SegmentsFromThePast

Project Update! Crews are hard at work on the I-95/I-295 North Interchange Reconstruction Project in Jacksonville, Florida. This recent photo shows the demolition of the old Eastbound I-295 bridge over the CSX railroad and US-17. The contractor is saw cutting sections of the deck between the girders for removal prior to removing the girders. The demolition of this bridge will allow the construction of the new bridge and Eastbound I-295 Mainline. Figg Bridge Inspection, Inc. April 26, 2024 – Tomorrow is National Audubon Day! Ornithologist and artist John James Audubon dedicated his life to studying and painting birds in North America. In 1821, he painted 32 of his famous Birds of America series while residing at Oakley Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana, near the future site of the John James Audubon Bridge. This new cable-stayed bridge was named after Audubon to exemplify the significance, importance, and preservation of the rich natural history in the region. This design-build project in New Roads, Louisiana, was a first for the Louisiana Department Of Transportation and Development and featured 12 miles of roadway and eight bridges, including the iconic John James Audubon Cable-Stayed Bridge. FIGG provided construction quality control to the Contractor. #construction #inspection #bridge

Segments from the Past! A look into our construction archive finds photos of the Biloxi I-110 elevated connection between I-10 and U.S. 90 in Biloxi, Mississippi. This viaduct represents a design solution to accommodate expansion of the interstate system in a developed urban area within restricted right-of-way. Openness of the superstructure and slender piers created minimal impact on the established community. Erection typically used the span-by-span method except for balanced cantilever construction over U.S. 90. Traffic was maintained at all times on U.S. 90 under the bridge during construction. FIGG designed this precast segmental bridge for the Mississippi Department of Transportation. FIGG also provided construction engineering and inspection support to the Owner. #civilengineering #transportation #bridge #SegmentsFromThePast

April 22, 2024 - Earth Day! The New I-35W Bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was a design-build with Flatiron Construction / Manson Construction Co. for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Elegant arching shapes, curved piers, and white color create a bridge that fits in harmony with the surrounding Mississippi River National Park. Innovative self-cleaning concrete was used to create 30’ tall gateway sculptures inspired by the universal symbol for water. The bridge was the first use in the U.S. of energy-efficient LED highway lighting, and LED feature lighting illuminates the bridge and its environs. #earthday #civilengineering #concrete #bridge Music: Romantic Piano With Orchestra by Horst Hoffmann Link: https://lnkd.in/dDpaM7uY License: https://lnkd.in/ggK4Zyk

April 19, 2024: Tomorrow is National North Dakota Day! This day recognizes the 39th state to join the U.S. Some interesting facts about ‘The Peace Garden State’ include: ·      North Dakota may or may not have been the 39th state to have joined the union. Both North and South Dakota were admitted at the same time. President Benjamin Harrison asked then Secretary of State James Blaine, to shuffle up the paperwork to avoid anyone ever knowing the state that was signed first. Still, North Dakota is listed as the 39th state with South Dakota occupying the 40th spot. This is due to alphabetical order. ·      A few attempts were launched to drop “North” from the state’s name and go by the simpler “Dakota”. The first attempt was in 1947 and the second was in 1989. However, both were unsuccessful due to the pushback from the Legislative Assembly. ·      North Dakota is the leading producer of honey in the U.S., followed by South Dakota, California, Montana, and Florida. ·      Lake Sakakawea formed by Garrison Dam on the Missouri River is named after a Shoshone woman named Sacagawea. In 1805 – 1806, she worked as a guide and interpreter during the Lewis and Clark expedition. The lake was created in 1954. It is one of the largest artificial reservoirs in the United States. The Four Bears Bridge in New Town, North Dakota, was North Dakota’s first precast concrete segmental bridge. This bridge crosses the Missouri River, where the river is widened by Garrison Dam, creating Lake Sakakawea. The bridge features a variable depth superstructure that was built in balanced cantilever, minimizing the impact on the environment. FIGG designed this bridge for the North Dakota Department of Transportation Department of Transportation. FIGG also provided construction engineering and inspection support to the Owner. #civilengineering #concrete #bridge

April 18, 2024: National Exercise Day! Today is a day to break a sweat and get moving. This day was created in the 1980s to encourage people of all ages, sizes, and abilities to engage in physical activity. The Capital Cascades Connector Bridge in Tallahassee, Florida, provides an outdoor park experience for cyclists, walkers, and runners. The sculptural concrete bridge carries a 12’ wide multi-use trail that connects parks and recreational areas with an extensive trail system to coastal waterways. A digital counter records how many cyclists and walkers make their way across the bridge each day and year. FIGG designed this pedestrian and bicycle-friendly bridge for the City of Tallahassee. #civilengineering #concrete #bridge #tallahassee

Project Update! Crews are hard at work on the I-95/I-295 North Interchange Reconstruction Project in Jacksonville, Florida. This recent photo shows bridge demolition. The last superstructure span of the original I-295 WB bridge was removed on April 15, 2024, over the CSX railroad tracks. Following the span removal, the pier columns and caps will be removed making way for pile driving to begin on the new bridge. The new bridge will be an extension of the bridge currently carrying I-295 WB traffic over US-17 and CSX Railroad. Traffic has been removed from the existing I-295 EB bridge and demolition of that structure will begin the third week of April. Figg Bridge Inspection, Inc. (FBI) is currently providing oversight and construction engineering and inspection for the Florida Department of Transportation on the I-95/I-295 North Interchange Reconstruction Project. #civilengineering #transportation #bridge

Segments from the Past! A look into our construction archive finds construction photos of the ceramic tile medallions for the Broadway Bridge in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Broadway Bridge has become “Daytona Beach’s newest permanent art exhibit”, according to the Orlando Sentinel. 10’ foot tall ceramic tile murals of swimming dolphins and manatees wrap each of the bridge piers, while 6’ tall ceramic tile medallions line the pedestrian walkway on each structure. A total of 36 medallions represent wildlife indigenous to the area, from various types of fish to a pair of bald eagles at the apex of the bridge, creating a linear library of images for pedestrians. FIGG designed this precast concrete segmental bridge for the @Florida Department of Transportation. #civilengineering #transportation #bridge #SegmentsFromThePast
