  • A few words from our managing director, Frank Leeb: "As I reflect on September 11th, I think of the many friends that I lost that day. I also think of the many others we continue to lose due to illness related to the rescue and recovery effort. September 11th brings a mix of emotions—sorrow, pride, and a profound sense of duty. That day stands as a stark reminder of the dangers inherent in the job, the bravery of those who responded, and the devastating loss felt by the entire FDNY family and beyond. The images of firefighters ascending the towers, knowing the risks but committed to saving lives, are forever etched in our memories. As a firefighter, September 11th symbolizes the ultimate sacrifice made in service to others. It is a day that tested the limits of courage, teamwork, and resilience. The legacy of those lost continues to inspire and guide the firefighting community. In the years that have followed, the lessons learned from that day have continued to shape how we approach our duty—emphasizing the importance of preparedness, communication, and looking out for one another. However, 9/11 also serves as a constant reminder of why we do what we do. It’s about serving the community and never forgetting the lives we’re sworn to protect. Let September 11th be a day of reflection - a time to honor the fallen while renewing our unwavering commitment to the values of bravery, dedication, sacrifice, and unity that define the fire service. We will never forget."

  • Did you know that spinach is high in antioxidants and fiber, and it’s virtually flavorless in a smoothie with peanut butter? Big thanks to Megan Lautz, MS, RD, CSCS, TSAC-F for sharing valuable nutrition insights for the fire service and tips for making a better smoothie on Day 2 of our Functional Fitness and Wellness Workshop! As Megan puts it, "It's a way to eat a salad without chewing."

  • On Saturday, Aaron Zamzow had the honor of participating in Pierce Manufacturing's 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field. • 🌟 Suicide Prevention Awareness Month 🌟 **Understanding Language in Suicide Prevention: Part 2** As first responders, our communication about suicide plays a crucial role in the support we provide. In this final part of our series, we’ll focus on using language that reflects the complexity of suicide. It's vital to communicate that suicide results from a combination of factors rather than attributing it to a single cause. Your words hold power—by choosing them carefully, we can support and uplift those in need. Together, we can make a difference. #SuicidePrevention #FirstResponders #LanguageMatters
