We did it! Between Republic crews, our third-party contractor T.F.R. Enterprises, and Town staff, we have completed storm debris collection from the severe weather we experienced in late May. Over the course of four weeks, we picked up over 7,900 cubic yards of brush (imagine a gigantic pile of almost 8,000 washing machines – that’s a TON of brush)! To accomplish that monumental task, T.F.R. deployed three huge trucks to our town and worked around the clock, including on weekends. Our Public Works, Parks and Rec, and Utilities crews helped pick up smaller piles and accessed harder-to-navigate streets that T.F.R. couldn’t reach. In total, Town staff dedicated more than 1,600 hours to storm debris collection. So we want to give a huge shoutout to our Public Works, Fire, Parks and Rec, Utilities, Code, Pay Roll, GIS, Customer Relations, and Communications employees for all of their hard work to get this done as quickly as possible. We dumped almost all of the debris at Living Earth, a green material recycler, which means we kept it out of the landfill. Thank you, Living Earth, for working with us on such short notice to make that happen! The numbers included in this post (both the amount of debris and staff work hours) will continue to increase, as Public Works crews are still hauling brush to Living Earth from a large pile we dumped at our Public Works yard. Bravo to everyone involved!!

Have you heard the news? We’re official! We’ve transitioned our website and staff email addresses to flowermound.gov. This switch to a .gov domain is more than just a cosmetic change (though we are feeling pretty snazzy these days) – it’s a big step in bolstering cybersecurity and identifying our website as official, trusted information. You can learn more about this change at flowermound.gov/official. Never fear – flower-mound.com is still here. It, and our old email addresses, will automatically redirect to our new .gov domain.

It’s National EMS Week! All members of the Flower Mound Fire Department are certified as both Firefighter and EMT, with most being certified as Paramedics. When an emergency happens, it’s thanks to this impressive team of EMS practitioners that those in our community are always in the best hands. We celebrated them at the May 20 Town Council meeting, and they showed up and showed out! 👏

With more than 10 years of municipal library experience, Dr. Rachel Hadidi has been named the new director of library services for the Town of Flower Mound. Her first day with the Town will be May 6. Hadidi has served as the managing director of library services at the Little Elm Public Library since 2022. Prior to this, she was the director of library services for the City of Lake Dallas and the community outreach librarian for the City of Plano. Hadidi’s hiring comes after an extensive nationwide search - led by library executive search firm Bradbury Miller Associates - yielded 26 applicants from seven states. “The Flower Mound Public Library is such a valued and integral part of our community,” said Assistant Town Manager Tiffany Bruce, who oversees library services. “We knew we were searching for someone who could continue to build upon the work that has already been done to ensure the library is a place our community members go to not only for books, but also for programming and educational and creative opportunities. Rachel is passionate about all the ways a library can impact its community, and we can’t wait for her to get started.” Hadidi has a bachelor’s degree in history, a master’s in library science, and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary information science, all from the University of North Texas. She is a member of the Texas Municipal League Directors Association and the Public Library Administrators of North Texas. “I value the connections public libraries make with their communities, and I am looking forward to strengthening that connection in Flower Mound and empowering the excellent staff there to continue their work with community engagement,” Hadidi said. “The Flower Mound Public Library is such an asset, and I feel lucky and excited to work with and get to know the staff and the patrons who truly make the library the resource that it is.” Hadidi will succeed Sue Ridnour, who retired in March 2024 after 24 years with the Flower Mound Public Library.

𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 The Town of Flower Mound has selected David Coulon as its next chief of police and extended a conditional offer of employment. Coulon is expected to start April 29. Coulon is a criminal justice executive with 30 years in policing and 22 years in command positions. He has served as the police chief for the City of The Colony since 2014. Prior to this, he held several positions with the City of Irving Police Department starting in 1993, rising through the ranks from police officer to sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and, ultimately, assistant chief. Coulon’s conditional offer comes after an extensive nationwide search led by SGR, a Texas-based executive recruitment firm, yielded 44 applicants from 13 states. Candidates were vetted through a comprehensive process, and the finalists participated in on-site interviews with various Town staff and community stakeholders, as well as a public meet-and-greet. “We had an amazing applicant pool for this position, which made whittling it down to five finalists difficult, and those finalists all brought incredible experience, knowledge, and insight,” Town Manager James Childers said. “But, David stood out throughout the entire process. Our selection process was exceedingly thorough, and David received high marks from the interview panels, from interactions with Town staff, and from community members who participated in our meet-and-greet. I know David will be a great fit within our police department, and I was impressed by his leadership acumen, his vision, and his focus on community engagement, relationship building, and transparency.” Coulon has a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas and a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Baylor University. He is a Texas Certified Public Manager and holds a Master Peace Officer Proficiency Certification issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). He is active in the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA), North Texas Police Chiefs Association (NTPCA), and International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). “I am truly honored to be able to join the men and women of the Flower Mound Police Department and work alongside professionals who I respect and admire,” Coulon said. “I look forward to building upon Flower Mound’s tradition of excellence and working with our community partners to ensure Flower Mound remains one of the safest places in the country to live, work, and play.” Coulon will succeed Chief Andy Kancel, who retired in November 2023 after 34 years of law enforcement experience and 10 years as Flower Mound’s chief. Kancel is staying on as interim chief through the transition period.
