About us

Foellinger Foundation, Inc. is a private, charitable foundation that awards grants for the benefit of people in Fort Wayne and Allen County, Indiana. The Foundation was created in 1958 by Helene R. Foellinger, The News-Sentinel’s publisher from 1936 to 1980, and Esther A. Foellinger, her mother. It was established to carry forward their family’s tradition of civic involvement and active concern for the well-being of their community. From 1958 through 1987, their gifts and bequests developed the Foundation into a permanent philanthropic endowment. Its grantmaking continues to reflect the Foellinger family’s interest in encouraging a community of self-reliant citizens.

Humane Fort Wayne has moved to its fur-ever home, to help even more pets find theirs! The organization celebrated the grand opening of its new state-of-the-art facility at 901 Leesburg Road this past weekend, a project made possible by the generosity of our community. Key features of the new facility include: • Increased capacity for animals, with twice as many dog kennels and three times as many cat kennels as their old space to help more animals and ensure they're comfortable. • A community education area to help people in our community learn about what the organization does and share best practices with shelter partners from around the region. • Improved indoor and outdoor spaces designed for pets and people alike! Dog kennels have indoor and outdoor areas, and cat colonies feature large windows that give them outside views. Indoor training and outdoor play areas are also available for shelter dogs. All clinic services will now be under one roof, creating greater capacity to deliver compassionate care. Humane Fort Wayne is moving in phases, so be sure to plan your visit at HumaneFW.org. Animals will be available for adoption at the Hanna Street location through Sunday, August 25th. Animals will move in and be available for adoption at the Leesburg Road Location on Tuesday, September 3rd! Thank you, Humane Fort Wayne, for caring for our community's pets—and the people who love them!

Foellinger Foundation staff and board members recently enjoyed visiting Harris Elementary to interact with children participating in one of the Allen County Public Library’s summer learning programs, Team Read! The program employs teens ages 16-19 to act as reading and learning role models for younger children at library branches and other community locations, like schools and parks.
