Over 1,000 organizations have signed on in support of a Farm Bill that protects and strengthens SNAP benefits for the 40+ million Americans who use this program to help put food on the table every month. But I'm not here to flaunt that number - I want to know...has YOUR organization signed on? If not, time is running out to sign on and send a message to Congress that we *know* we have the power to help households with low income. Deadline is Monday, July 8! “[Summer programs are] either not available at no charge, or families are costed out of them, or the summer programs don’t exist at all. And transportation can be a barrier to accessing the meals — it’s a lot easier to provide access to meals where kids are in school already and going into the school cafeteria for lunch,” said FRAC's Crystal FitzSimons. https://lnkd.in/erj3e8CP

“Hunger doesn’t take a break during the summer months,” said Maryland Hunger Solution's LaMonika N. Jones. “We want to them to be able to purchase meals and the food items that we know that they’ll consume."

Schools have until Sunday, June 30, to apply for the Community Eligibility Provision for the 2024–2025 school year. The Community Eligibility Provision, commonly referred to as CEP, allows high-need schools to offer school breakfast and lunch at no charge to all students. Starting next school year, any school, group of schools, or school district with an Identified Student Percentage above 25 percent — the percentage of students eligible for free school meals without a household application — is eligible to participate in CEP. Find the top 5 reasons to Adopt Community Eligibility in a blog by FRAC's Erin Hysom. https://lnkd.in/eHwkC-gV

"According to FRAC, school lunch is critical to student health and well-being — especially for low-income students. A healthy school lunch ensures that students have the nutrition they need to learn throughout the day." https://lnkd.in/e4jKgxmd

"It's challenging for a student at any age to sit in the classroom and focus on what the teacher is trying to share when they're hungry. I understand the argument that it takes away from instruction, but the distraction of being hungry also takes away from instructional time," said Maryland Hunger Solution's LaMonika N. Jones. https://lnkd.in/ggQduPKf
