Nobody cares about your new idea until it's already trending, but by then it's too late. When I joined Rafael Lozano-Hemmer's studio in 2016 we had no 3D pipeline for pitching our immersive installations, we started off using pathtraced renders and photoshop to make images that took hours to create, and every change in idea required us to start from scratch. How can an interactive media arts studio communicate our projects with only 2D images? It just made no sense. First thing I did was move us to Real-time 3D using Unreal 4.13, and it absolutely changed the game for us. We could iterate at the speed of light, Rafa could have full creative control over his ideas, and we saw a 30% increase in conversions for our proposals. We showed VR experiences to other firms like Foster + Partners in 2018 and when they asked us what we were using to create these, and we told them Unreal. You can now see they've built a whole pipeline around UE5. Fast forward to 2024 and now everyone is using UE5, and the edge studios who adopted the tech early is shrinking everyday. You have to be open to new tech before you've heard the hype, because by then your window of opportunity to reap the big rewards is already over. We're continuously updating Convert3D with additional formats and improvements. This time around we've added USDZ support. USDZ derives from Pixar Animation Studios's open Universal Scene Description, and is expanding in support across the AEC and entertainment industry with many tools being able to read and write USD.
