FOX 5 San Diego (KSWB-TV) reposted this
My parents say when you forget your birthday, it's because you're too busy living. Well, for the first time in 16 years, I forgot today's work anniversary. The picture below was taken Aug. 1, 2008, just minutes after we launched the very first newscast at FOX 5 San Diego (KSWB-TV). That show was nuts. 📺 I was a line producer then. ⌨️ Only a few computers were installed. 🪑 Office furniture was limited. 🖊️ We sat on the ground in a circle and wrote out pages of rundowns with sharpies on scratch paper. 🚧 We rehearsed around construction crews building our set. 🧳 Most of the staff weren't even in town yet. 🤷 The few who were here didn't know each other. ❗ Then comes Aug. 1, 2008, we launch our morning news on a wing and a prayer... AND...... The first half hour had no audio. 😐 **************** We've grown a bit since. So much so that we're celebrating this sweet 16th anniversary as a new duopoly with KUSI News, welcoming new colleagues and hiring like crazy. And once again we are building a new, joint station from ground up. 💪 I can't help but notice the parallels. Truth is all of us who signed up to launch a station 16 years ago had no idea the lasting impact such an undertaking would have. Chance brought us together, faith kept us going and a collective courage in the face of skeptics developed our grit. We all believed in a vision of what could be and we worked toward that. When you're too busy doing, you don't have time for complaining. So as it is for personal and professional - it's ok to be scared. Life is uncomfortable and you're not entitled to anything. It's ok to fail and be humbled. Use each step back to propel yourself forward. Surround yourself with doers, not complainers. And MOST importantly, enjoy the journey. Happy sweet 16th anniversary FOX 5 San Diego (KSWB-TV)! 🥂🎉 #tvnews #journalism #culturematters #peopleoffox5 #teamwork #fox5sandiego #kusinews #happyanniversary
