Whether downtown on the Chicago Riverwalk last night for a lecture at our Bridgehouse Museum or today at Horner Park for an Otter Society nature walk, the work of Friends of the Chicago River is evident. Thanks to all the supporters and partners on this journey with us to ensure the river is clean, healthy, biodiverse, connected and accessible to all.

The Race for the River 5k gives runners a front row view to the ongoing journey of expanding equitable trail access throughout our watershed and a glimpse into recent river-edge improvements. The 5K will begin in River Park, follow the North Shore Channel trail north to Bernard Stone Park, and circle back to end at the Family Festival in River Park. Running the 5K (or going on a Guided Nature Walk) gives you the opportunity to see native plants and wildlife while supporting the continuing restoration and protection of the Chicago-Calumet River system for all people, plants, and wildlife. Register to join us on Saturday, September 21 for the inaugural Race for the River 5K by visiting https://lnkd.in/ggJE5XbZ

We had a great turnout and accomplished so much at today's cleanup event on the Cal-Sag Channel, co-hosted with Village of Crestwood Mayor Ken Klein, MWRD Vice President Patricia Theresa Flynn, and Worth Township Supervisor Patricia Joan Murphy. One of the first volunteers to show up excitedly shared that he’d been waiting for an opportunity like this to make a difference in his own neighborhood. I was happy to inform him that today's event marks the launch of a Litter Free Supply Station at Crestwood Village Hall. This station will provide everything needed to host local community cleanups, including waste pickers and safety gear. Friends of the Chicago River is proud to support the supply station as part of our Litter Free Chicago-Calumet River initiative. Together, we work towards a cleaner, healthier environment for all.

Thursday July 25th at the Friends of the Chicago River Bridgehouse Museum Happy Hour Speaker Series is a chat about one of our favorite bird species, the Black Crowned Night Heron. Joining us are two experts from the Lincoln Park Zoo Urban Wildlife Institute Liza Lehrer and Henry Adams, with beverages provided by Two Brothers Brewing Company. They will discuss current research regarding this species and some other work that the Urban Wildlife Institute is conducting. This event is free and open to the public on our Riverwalk Plaza at Michigan and Wacker. Join us at 5pm with the lecture beginning at 5:15pm. The museum will remain open until 6:30pm for folks to enjoy after the talk.
