The Food Safety and Preventative Controls Alliance (FSPCA) will have a table at the World Conference on Food Science and Technology in London from August 19-21, 2024. The FSPCA is an internationally recognized and trusted source for training programs and outreach related to the prevention-oriented standards of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). On August 20th, Dr. Brian Schaneberg, Executive Director of the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH), will present “FSMA’s Global Influence on Food Safety.” He will be joined by Tania Martinez from Demos Global Group, Spain, and Gerald Wojtala of the International Food Protection Training Institute, USA. The conference will bring together a multidisciplinary group of scientists, researchers, academicians, nutritionists, dietitians, and industry representatives from around the world to present and exchange breakthrough ideas, cutting-edge research, and promote global quality research. If you’re attending the conference, we invite you to visit our table for information or attend our session: Conference: https://lnkd.in/dge9Mhh6 FSPCA: https://www.fspca.net/ Abstract: “FSMA’s Global Influence on Food Safety.” Over ten years ago, the Food Safety Modernization Act was signed into US law. This was the largest change to the US food safety system since 1938. It shifted food safety from the traditional system of inspection, enforcement, and reaction to a principle of prevention. It was no longer enough to respond to outbreaks of foodborne illness; they must be prevented. Since that time, a series of rules have been finalized and published detailing the regulatory requirements whether the food is produced in the US or imported. They cover those that grow, manufacture, process, pack, store and transport foods for humans and animals. This also includes food contact materials and substances such as packaging. Although FSMA is a US law, the regulatory requirements have global influence. Throughout the development and implementation of FSMA, there was close engagement with multiple international regulatory partners (e.g., Canada, Mexico, Europe and China) as food coming into the US must also comply. In 2021, the World Bank reported US food products imports from 180 countries well above $80 billion. This session will provide highlights on how FSMA regulations such as Preventive Controls, Intentional Adulteration, Foreign Supplier Verification, Produce Safety, and Traceability can impact your food products and what you should consider to ensure safe food. #foodweek2024 #foodscience #foodsafety #foodsafetytraining #foodindustry #IFSH #FSPCA #IllinoisTech
