I am excited to be a part of the BRIDGE (Black Rising Investors Development and Growth Education) Program by Gaingels. Gaingels is among the largest investors in LGBTQ+, minority and diverse founders. BRIDGE is a 6 month venture capital course, crafted to uplifting and equipping black investors with knowledge and tools to make informed investment decisions. Speakers come from organizations such as GV (Google Ventures), A16z, Portfolia, Gaingels, BLCK VC, and many more. For our first week, we were introduced to Gaingels and the VC ecosystem as a whole. Thank you Lorenzo Thione for giving us your time and knowledge! Check out a few things I learned: 1️⃣ Alpha, Alpha, Alpha- Venture Capital provides capital to risky startups with the thesis of driving greater returns. Higher risk, higher reward! 2️⃣ Asymmetric information- VC firms with more information (higher quality dealflow and greater dealflow) are able to make better investment decisions and drive higher returns. 3️⃣ Gaingels reduces risk by coinvesting with firms with high information asymmetry and access to capital such as Y Combinator, Greycroft , a16z, and Sequoia. Partnering with VC firms reduces risk, increases deal flow, and drives greater returns. 4️⃣ Shareholders of a small business can take advantage of the Qualified Small Business Stock Exclusion to obtain a tax break on capital gains of 100% up to $10 million or 10X your investment, whichever is greater. Thank you to Brian Lucksinger, Brandon Parkes, Lorenzo Thione, Jennifer Jeronimo, David Beatty, Paul Grossinger, Diana Azrin, and everyone at Gaingels for making this program a reality! Pleasure meeting Gabriel Leavell, Byron Ward, Blaire Rowe, Jeffrey J., Jonté Harrell, and Jason Smith! #Gaingels #BRIDGE #VC #LGBTVC #QueerVC #VentureCapital
