On Monday, over 150 youth baseball and softball players and the local community gathered at the Glenwood Baseball Field in Glenwood, Iowa, to honor the late Officer Christopher Abbott. Abbott was posthumously awarded the “GameChanger of the Year," which celebrates meaningful contributions to a community through youth sports. GameChanger President Sameer Ahuja presented the Abbott family and the Glenwood Baseball & Softball Board with a $15,000 check. The money will be used for facility improvements and renaming Field 5 to Field 165, Officer Abbott’s badge number. Glenwood was also provided new uniforms donated by DICK'S Sporting Goods and GameChanger and designed by PROLOOK. GameChanger interns 🤝 Alley-Oop Kids There’s no better way to start an intern program than by giving back. Our 2024 class kicked off its first week by spending time with the non-profit organization Alley-Oop Kids. Founded in 2022 by then-15-year-old Rishan Patel, Alley-Oop Kids is dedicated to bringing sports to kids on a global scale by providing access to sporting equipment through “Lending Lockers.” Our interns built their own lockers, which were filled with a variety of sporting equipment and donated to NYC Parks. To date, Alley-Oop Kids has provided 250 Lending Lockers, empowering play for over 200,000 kids globally. Last week, our Summer 2024 class of interns kicked off their 10-week summer internship program by spending time at GameChanger HQ in the Big Apple. 22 interns from across the country are participating in our program this year, our largest class to date. Their interests vary from engineering to marketing, product development, data, finance, and more. Our remote-first program allows our interns the flexibility to work from anywhere while gaining hands-on experience that will be valuable throughout their careers. Their first week was a whirlwind of unique opportunities, including an insightful panel with our executive leadership team, a LinkedIn-led session on optimizing their profiles, an exciting introduction to our Major League Baseball (MLB) partnership, and a heartwarming volunteer opportunity with the Alley-Oop Kids Foundation. They then ended the day with a memorable New York Yankees game! And that was just week one. We can't wait to see the energy and innovation they bring to GameChanger all summer! First baseman. Catcher. GameChanger. For many teams, we're an official position. It might be a parent or a coach. But last season, for the Heartland High School softball team, "GameChanger" was student athlete Alayna Gardner. Alayna was out with an injury and took over the GameChanger duties, keeping score for her teammates on our app. We're thrilled to learn she is back on the field and helping her team win games in their district's tournament in Michigan. In a recent news interview, she recounted: “I was GameChanger, so it’s a lot different this year,” said Gardner, a junior in her third varsity season. “I loved cheering them on last year, but it’s great to be in between the lines this year.” Congrats, Alayna!
