  • Professional Relationships Create and nurture your professional relationships. This summer take some time to take stock of your professional relationships. While at post or when you are back in the US, schedule activities where you nurture the relationships you have built and create new relationships with people you’d like to know. These might be people you’ve met at post or those you’ve discovered on social media. As you communicate with these people, tell them clearly what type of work you’re seeking and your plans for professional growth. Prepare for these conversations by contacting your GEA bit.ly/GCLOGEI to practice answers to the most asked questions: 1. What do you do? 2. What projects are your working on? 3. Where do you work (or volunteer) now? 4. What job are you interested in? What organizations are you targeting? Consider jobs inside the mission, at a DC- based U.S. government agency, and remote work. Think about all the wonderful experiences you’ve had and bring that positive energy to conversations. #GEI, #efmemployment, #professionalrelationships

  • Elevator Pitch Concerned about how to introduce yourself professionally? Here is a four-step model for an elevator pitch that kicks off the conversation in 60 seconds: Step One: “I’m currently exploring opportunities in [career interest or industry sector], because it fits well with the work I did at [company, NGO, or wherever you acquired the experience] as a [the job you performed]. Step Two: The type of organizations I’m interested in include [name of specific NGOs, multinationals, and other companies you’re researching. Name 2 or 3.] Step Three: What other organizations would you suggest I consider? Step Four: Who would you suggest I talk to next? Would you be able to introduce me? You can customize this model depending on your goal. What’s important is that you convey your professional skills and connect with the person that you are speaking to. You can work with your GEA to practice your elevator pitch. Learn more about Global Employment Advisors here: bit.ly/GCLOGEI #GEI #efmemployment #elevatorpitch

  • Foreign Service Family Reserve Corps Open Enrollment is Happening Now If you are an Appointment Eligible Family Member (AEFM) and intend to seek overseas employment with the Federal Government now or in the future, apply for the Foreign Service Family Reserve Corps (FSFRC) on USAJOBS (search keyword: FSFRC). The application window is open now through July 28, 2024. If you are currently employed under a Department of State Family Member Appointment (FMA) or TEMP Appointment at post, you may apply at any time via MyData. Family members who have their clearance maintained on the basis of their membership in the FSFRC could potentially accelerate their future employment start date. Learn more about the program guidelines, eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, FAQs, and how to apply on GCLO’s FSFRC webpage. Some required documents must be notarized, so plan early and accordingly for your application. If the applicant is overseas, those documents can be signed by the Human Resources Officer or Management Officer at post instead of being notarized. If you have specific questions, email the FSFRC team at [email protected]. # GEI #EFMEmployment #FSFRC #careertransitions

  • Why It Benefits AEFMs to Join the FSFRC?   Foreign Service Family Reserve Corps (FSFRC) creates a basic initial “employee profile” for Appointment Eligible Family Members (AEFMs), streamlining the hiring process for positions at an overseas post or back in the U.S. If you have a clearance, FSFRC membership allows the Department of State to be more efficient in hiring AEFMs and it saves you the hassle of starting from scratch with your security clearance every time you move. Why apply?  If you are an AEFM and you think you might want to work at post at any point in time, this helps initiate the process for you.  How to apply: There are two methods, the first is through USAJobs (https://www.usajobs.gov) and the second, for those already employed inside the mission, use form DS-5137 (OpenNet).   Watch this GCLO video on the FSFRC to learn more about the program and how to apply.  https://lnkd.in/ezmBzy6X #GEI #efmemployment #FSFRC
