Last week, Governor Brian P. Kemp and GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson led an economic development mission to Italy to reinforce strategic partnerships with some of Georgia's long-term and largest Italian investors and job creators. Italian companies in Georgia reflect the state's diverse industry mix – from tire maker Pirelli and eyewear brand giant Luxottica to La Regina di San Marzano, which sources local ingredients to produce its traditional pasta sauces in Alma, Georgia. More about Georgia's connections with Italy: 🇮🇹 In 2023, Georgia's exports to Italy totaled $592 million. Italy is the third largest economy in the European Union. 🏛️ Italy was one of the top 10 sources of international investment in Georgia in fiscal year 2023. 🏢 Italy is by the State of Georgia's Europe Office, which has maintained continuous representation in Europe since 1973.

Georgia's utilities continue to strengthen communities and a reliable, low cost supply of energy for growing demand. Congratulations to Oglethorpe Power Corporation!
Today, we announced the construction of two new natural gas projects in Georgia: a two-unit combined-cycle plant in Monroe County and a simple-cycle combustion turbine unit at an existing facility in Talbot County. Oglethorpe Power has owned and operated power plants in Monroe and Talbot Counties for many years, and we are excited to build upon our strong relationships in these communities. In addition to helping meet the state’s rising electricity demands, these projects will create permanent, high-quality jobs, hundreds of temporary construction jobs, increased local revenue during construction and ongoing tax revenue for schools and county operations. “Georgia is experiencing tremendous growth, thanks to our state’s favorable business climate, skilled workforce and sound leadership. The electric cooperatives we serve need more energy capacity to meet their increasing demand. These two new natural gas projects demonstrate growth in Oglethorpe Power’s generation portfolio and our focus on reliable, affordable and sustainable energy for our members.” - Mike Smith, Oglethorpe Power President & CEO Learn more at www.opc.com/newgeneration.
