    I first started Consensus in my basement in 2013 with this idea that technology should be able to create a better buying experience, shorten the sales cycle, all while gathering a rich data set from buyer engagement analytics to help inform go-to-market teams. I didn’t know what words to use back then. I just knew that B2B buying was painful, complex, and slow and buyers wanted a more efficient way to buy. The demo bottleneck was a big source of pain for a lot of #presales and #technicalsales teams. (For more on the demo bottleneck: https://lnkd.in/gGBJ_MbH) All of this was so new that even early adopters struggled to understand how fundamentally we were changing B2B sales. So I invented the term #DemoAutomation to hopefully describe it better. In 2015 I realized our company name at the time (DemoChimp) did not adequately describe the benefits to the buyers: how our solution discovers and engages other stakeholders, and how the data helps bring alignment among the buying group. So we changed the company name to Consensus. Around that time I built a simple prototype of what I called a “click-through demo”, in which a buyer would click through a simulation of the software as a way to “experience” the product in a controlled, guided environment. I told the Board, “At some point, we need to add the interactive ability for the buyers to experience the software.” Up to that point the Consensus solution included a unique approach to personalization: video clips and documents that would self-organize based on responses to questions, and thus create the perfect demo for each individual. That works really well, but it is natural to want to get your hands on something you’ve seen and try it for yourself. Again, the focus was on the #buyerenablement question: “How do we help the buyers get what they need as soon as they are want it, not when the sale team is available?” So a few years later we launched Tours: adding the ability to piece together a path that could guide buyers through an interactive demo experience. Now, with the ReachSuite acquisition, we’ve added even more immersive ways for the buyers to experience the product. With so many ways to learn about, explore, and experience the product, Consensus is no longer just a demo automation tool, but a Product Experience Platform. I’m particularly excited about how combining Consensus with ReachSuite will help buyers get what they need at every stage of the buying process. In our profession, we think of those stages as Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success, but the buyer just thinks of it as one long challenging process to make a difficult risk-filled decision.     The number of stakeholders in buyer groups has increased by 19% in the last year. This makes identifying who moves the needle more difficult than ever. That’s why knowing how to leverage your data to uncover buyer intent can be extremely helpful in narrowing down your top stakeholders in a buyer group. Sales teams can use a few high-level criteria to separate top stakeholders from the rest of a buyer group: • What is their level of influence inside the buyer group? • How likely are they to make the final decision? • Are they a champion for your product? • Are they involved in budgetary decisions? Using these criteria as the base, you can then gather data to inform and enhance your discovery and identify the unique needs and wants of your target stakeholders.
