The #GFANZ Nature in NZTP Workstream recently held a webinar exploring focal topics of this year's work on the use of nature-related levers in the context of a net-zero transition plan. This thinking will be part of the upcoming consultation on Nature in NZTP - Supplemental guidance to the Net-zero Transition Planning framework. The case studies aim to contextualize the themes, components and recommendations in the GFANZ Financial Institution Net Zero Transition Plans (NZTP) Framework.    Contributing financial institutions include BNP Paribas Asset Management, The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company, Limited, DBS Bank, HSBC, Mizuho, MUFG, Prudential plc, SuMi TRUST AM, and UOB. Join the GFANZ Secretariat and contributing financial institutions on July 31st at 3pm SGT / 4pm JST and KST for the launch webinar of “Catalyzing Climate Action: Emergent Asia-Pacific Case Studies of Financial Institutions’ Net-zero Transition Plans”.    The webinar will provide an introduction to the report, followed by a series of short presentations and Q&A with contributors on their individual net zero transition plans and case studies. A panel discussion then seeks to explore how current net zero trends and developments will shape the future of Asian transition plans. The momentum around nature has increased rapidly in the last year with the signing of the Global Biodiversity Framework in 2022, COP 16 taking place later this year, and multiple global organizations contributing thought leadership, research and guidance on nature. Join the GFANZ Nature in NZTP Workstream on July 15th at 10:00 AM EDT / 3:00 PM BST, for a teaser webinar on GFANZ’ upcoming global consultation paper, releasing this October, on how nature can support net-zero implementation. The GFANZ work will explore how nature-related levers may be used in the context of a net-zero transition plan, addressing a gap in voluntary guidance. The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) will also release a consultation on nature transition planning this year and the ISSB (IFRS Foundation) has announced they will begin research associated with biodiversity, ecosystems and ecosystem services. In this webinar, GFANZ, TNFD, and the ISSB will share a look ahead on their nature-related work this year. At the end of May, the GFANZ Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Network held its first training on transition planning and transition finance with 25 top executives from 17 Mexican banks. The workshop was led by Ambassador Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, Chair of the GFANZ LAC Advisory Board, and Juan Carlos Jiménez Rojas, Executive Director of the Asociación de Bancos de México ABM, A. C. Both spoke of the importance of integrating climate into financial decisions and the economic opportunities that lie ahead with the transition to net zero. Additionally, Alba Aguilar from Consejo Mexicano de Finanzas Sostenibles (CMFS) moderated a fruitful discussion with two Net-Zero Banking Alliance representatives (Mariuz Calvet from Santander México and BEATRIZ SANCHEZ COVARRUBIAS from Grupo Financiero Banorte). Last week, Mary L. Schapiro, Vice Chair of GFANZ, delivered a keynote speech at the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC)’s Sustainable Finance Conference, “Climate in the Center of Economy” during the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Annual Meeting in Athens, Greece.   Highlights from the speech include: "While Zeus, the god of sky and weather, will be looking down on a continued rise in global carbon emissions, he can take comfort that the work of the financial regulators and private sector institutions gathered at the IOSCO Annual Meeting in Athens can support both growth and transition of the economy.
