As the US presidential race ramps up and Chicago prepares to host the Democratic National Convention, members of our Emerging Leaders community met with local political leaders and key policy makers last week at an exclusive panel discussion providing their perspectives on how global trends affect the lives of their constituents. The discussion offered current and former members of the Emerging Leaders program a first-hand opportunity to gain critical insight on how global impacts affect everyday decisions made by state and local leaders, and how these leaders factor global trends into long-term policies to bolster Chicago and Illinois’ future prosperity. Special thanks to Rep. Kam Buckner (2017 EL Cohort), Alderman Gilbert Villegas, and Bria Scudder (2022 EL Cohort) for joining us for the panel, which was moderated by Adam Gypalo (2023 EL Cohort)! Interested in joining the Emerging Leaders program and attending programs like this? Applications for the Class of 2025 are now open through September 10. While a majority of Americans still support an active U.S. role in world affairs, demographic divides over the costs of global engagement indicate a growing preference for restraint. In collaboration with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Candace Rondeaux of New America’s Planetary Politics Initiative considers the implications of foreign policy for the 2024 U.S. presidential election and beyond. 🗳️ https://lnkd.in/eXWD6BU3
