  • The Greater Hartford Arts Council extends our heartfelt condolences to Tao LaBossiere, a beloved artist whose creative spirit and unwavering dedication to our community have left an indelible mark on Hartford’s cultural landscape. Tao’s artistic legacy is visible throughout our city, most notably in his breathtaking 5-story mural “The Oneness of Being in Still Waters” - a majestic underwater scene featuring a swimming turtle that has become a Hartford landmark. This mural, located at 289 Asylum St., stands as a testament to Tao’s extraordinary talent for creating immersive underwater scenes, his mastery of light and shadow, and his ability to transform urban spaces into awe-inspiring works of art. Beyond his iconic murals, Tao’s creativity knew no bounds. From sculpting a throne from a fallen tree in Bushnell Park to creating the thought-provoking “Bee the Change” mural at The 224 EcoSpace, Tao consistently pushed the boundaries of public art. His works beautified our city, sparked important conversations, and inspired our community. Tao was more than just a talented artist. As one of the early Master Teaching Artists for our Greater Hartford Arts Council Neighborhood Studios program, he generously shared his knowledge and passion with young apprentices, nurturing the next generation of public artists. His collaborative spirit, willingness to brainstorm, and readiness to lend a helping hand made him an invaluable resource for the GHAC and the entire Hartford arts community. Rest in peace, Tao. Your art and your spirit will forever be a part of Hartford’s soul. 📸 TimeFrozen Photography

  • Exciting day out with the GHAC Team! We geared up for our much-anticipated mural walking tour, designed as a unique self-guided experience. This allows everyone to appreciate the details and stories behind each mural at their own pace. We also had the chance to watch the talented artist Arcy put the final touches on his amazing mural, fully funded by the Greater Hartford Arts Council in partnership with Theater Works Hartford. They provided Arcy with a great canvas. Witnessing his creative process up close was truly inspiring! 🎨✨ #GHAC #MuralTour #ArtInAction #CreativeCommunity

  • Today marks the exciting beginning of Street Stages, with Liz Reed having the honor of Kicking off the year’s first performance! Street Stages are a unique and vibrant feature of Hartford, scattered throughout the city’s streets. These are carefully chosen spots that serve as stages for our local artists. Here, they breathe life into the arts, transforming ordinary streets into dynamic arenas of creativity and expression. These stages become a testament to the immense talent nestled in our community, and a reminder of the power of art in bringing people together. #Streetstages #liveperformances #GHAC24
