Our work is hard, but necessary. It was through the combined efforts of partners across the nation that we were able to release a total of $3.5M to 21 organizations with initiatives that are transformative and inspire others to envision a more just and inclusive future. To achieve this feat, it took: 🌱 the efforts of the Advisory Committee in developing the purpose, scoring criteria, and selection of the grantees in this round of grantmaking. 🌱 the role of the Design Table in shaping the vision, values and the multifield, multi sector approach of Growing Justice. 🌱 the contributions of the Funder Group in supporting this innovative work and the leadership of people working in the front lines of the food system. GROWING JUSTICE is a collaborative fund working to advance equitable good food procurement. GROWING JUSTICE grants support community-based, BIPOC-led efforts working to build partnerships and organize local leaders to advance good food practices and policies, support farmers and producers, and build out the local/regional food infrastructure (aggregation, processing, distribution) linked to institutions and other markets. We are excited to announce that GROWING JUSTICE has awarded $3.5M to 21 efforts across the US working to advance equitable good food procurement and transform food systems. Large institutions like schools and universities, hospitals, and government agencies spend billions of dollars annually procuring food for the communities they serve; however small farmers, fishers and others along the food value chain struggle to gain access to the markets needed for their businesses to thrive. GROWING JUSTICE is a fund working to advance equitable good food procurement.  Equitable good food procurement is the purchasing of good food from locally- or regionally-owned, and environmentally- and economically-sustainable farms, ranches, fisheries and food businesses that prioritize the needs of low-income communities of color and treat their workers with dignity.
