About us

Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) is a local organization chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA that provides support for Girl Scouting and Girl Scout Troops in Southeastern Michigan. GSSEM proudly serves more than 37,000 girls in Genesee, Lapeer, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, and St. Clair Counties as well as parts of Monroe & Wayne County. We have service centers in Clinton Township, Detroit, Flint, Port Huron, and White Lake. Our council is under the leadership of our CEO, Monica Woodson and our Board of Directors. Since the Girl Scout program is girl-driven, reflecting the ever-changing needs and interests of today’s girls, diversity is more important than ever. Good evening LinkedIn Family, I’m excited to share my Gold Award project, "Medical Minds of the Future," which addresses the lack of diversity in the medical field. This issue arises from barriers like limited exposure to medical opportunities and lack of role models for minority individuals. I created engaging videos demonstrating simple medical experiments that children can replicate at home (Linked Below). These videos, shared on YouTube and Instagram, aim to demystify medical concepts and spark curiosity about healthcare careers. I partnered with medical scholars, educators, healthcare professionals, and community organizations to ensure the content was relevant and impactful. Local schools and community centers helped promote and distribute these resources. In-person sessions at Paul Roberson Malcolm X Academy provided hands-on experiences, further engaging children in the world of medicine. "Medical Minds of the Future" demonstrates the power of grassroots initiatives in driving positive change. By inspiring children to explore medical careers, I hope to contribute to a more diverse and inclusive healthcare workforce. I am honored to have been recognized on the Senate floor by Senator Veronica Kleinfeld and to have received a special tribute. Additionally, I had the privilege of meeting Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, which was an incredible experience. https://lnkd.in/eaRTuzSJ #GoldAward #MedicalMindsOfTheFuture #DiversityInMedicine #STEMEducation #CommunityImpact #FutureLeaders #GirlScout #GirlScoutsofSoutheasternMichigan #GoldAwardGirlScout #GirlScoutsofAmerica
