There’s a new way to explore our interactive map of US abortion policies!  Now, you can see which states have specific abortion bans, restrictions or protections, or policy combinations in effect. Our interactive map groups states into one of seven categories based on abortion policies they have in effect. You can select a state for details about its policies, characteristics of state residents and key abortion statistics. And you can use the map's newest feature to select a policy or group of policies to see which states have those in place. Explore it now 👉 https://gu.tt/4985P4S Note: Graphics may not reflect the latest map data. #AbortionAccess #StatePolicy #ReproductiveRights

Our partner in Ethiopia, TaYA, spoke with young people about their experiences with stigma around pregnancy and abortion. Their stories matter. Stigma can prevent people from seeking support from family and friends, as well as from seeking essential health services. It can also fuel misinformation. Thanks to the storytellers and friends at TaYA for advocating for more supportive, inclusive environments for young people to talk about sexual and reproductive health.

"Tragically, there are instances where women, driven by misinformation or pressured pregnancies, resort to suicide, leading to the loss of precious lives. Despite the discomfort surrounding such cases, they persist in our society, highlighting the crucial link with sexual and reproductive health. In my past, discussing this topic felt uneasy, sticking to societal norms, until a pivotal event changed my perspective. During my high school years, my closest friend faced overwhelming stress but kept her difficulties hidden. Hesitant to share due to my previously expressed narrow views on sexual and reproductive health, she finally committed suicide.  This damaging experience with someone so close strongly changed me. It points up the urgent need for open discussions about sexual and reproductive health. The sacrifice of a human life provoked a transformation in my attitude, and now, without any shame, I advocate for these crucial discussions. I emphasize the importance of safe abortion, raise awareness about natural and artificial contraceptive methods, and strongly explanation for collective efforts to prevent women from resorting to such dangerous measures." #Testimony of a #youthadvocate #Stopthejudgment #Testimony #youthvoice Guttmacher Institute MSI Reproductive Choices

It’s been 40 years since the #GlobalGagRule was first imposed. This harmful US policy disrupts vital reproductive health care services and advocacy efforts, perpetuating harm to communities in low- and middle-income countries. Undoing the gag rule’s harm will take years. We need continued momentum to end this policy and begin to repair its damage to SRHR globally. Congress must take action by passing the Global HER Act, which would repeal the rule permanently. Our research in collaboration with partners in Ethiopia and Uganda sheds light on the policy’s lingering impact on reproductive health care systems and outcomes. Read more, including why it's so important to end the gag rule now: https://gu.tt/4dfaYeT #EndGlobalGag #EndGGR

Last week, Guttmacher’s global policy team was delighted to lead a learning session ahead of the #SRHR4ALL National Dialogue hosted by Women's Global Network for Reproductive Rights, happening this week in the Philippines. We were grateful for this opportunity to engage with participants on the Guttmacher-Lancet Commission’s integrated definition of sexual & reproductive health & rights (SRHR), and how the full realization of SRHR for all encompasses a broad spectrum of SRH services and rights – including often neglected issues such as safe abortion, comprehensive sex education, infertility, LGBTQI+ rights and others. Our experts work to equip advocates with evidence and data to make the case for a comprehensive approach to SRHR – toward a world in which everyone can access the resources they need to achieve sexual & reproductive health and well-being. We appreciate being able to engage with SRHR activists and policymakers to learn more about the contexts they work in and what comprehensive SRHR means to them. We look forward to continuing this work!
