ICYMI: Following the Utah Supreme Court's decision, a total abortion ban will remain blocked as the case continues in lower courts. Everyone deserves access to abortion when they need it. For now, Utahns can still get this care up to 18 weeks. More on abortion policies in Utah & every US state: https://gu.tt/3LN4oQ7

Abortion seekers from out of state have increasingly sought care in Pennsylvania. A 6-week abortion ban is now in effect in Iowa—a massive blow to reproductive autonomy in the state. Iowa moves to Most Restrictive on our interactive map and joins 3 other states enforcing 6-week bans. Six weeks is often before many people even know they're pregnant. With existing restrictions, accessing an abortion in this timeframe is nearly impossible. Abortion seekers from Iowa are already traveling to states like Illinois, Minnesota, and Nebraska. Many more Iowans are likely to be forced to travel out of state for care with the 6-week ban in effect—and this travel comes at a steep financial and logistical cost. Alarmingly, donations to abortion funds have been slowing even as the need for support grows. No one should have to travel for essential care. Everyone deserves abortion access in their community. Full stop. Donating to abortion funds like Iowa Abortion Access Fund, Midwest Access Coalition, and the Emma Goldman Clinic Fund is one way to support people’s access to care. In 2023, the first full year after Roe was overturned, more than 14,000 patients traveled from Texas to New Mexico to get abortion care. This is neither normal, nor acceptable. More on our latest US abortion data: https://gu.tt/3LBcKdx

A 6-week abortion ban will soon take effect in Iowa and devastate access to care in the state and surrounding areas. Our latest data show that in 2023, Iowa residents were already traveling to Illinois, Minnesota and Nebraska to get the abortion care they needed. No one should be forced to leave their state, let alone their community, for basic health care. Read more: https://gu.tt/4eRbz7p

Traveling for abortion care isn’t new, but the distances many US patients must face have increased post-Dobbs. As Guttmacher data scientist Isaac Maddow-Zimet noted, "Our findings show just how far people will travel to obtain the care they want and deserve."
