This week, departments and agencies will present their business plans and proposed budgets for 2025 to Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson and members of the Citizens Budget Review Team. Following the series of presentations, Chairwoman Hendrickson and the group will evaluate the needs of the departments and agencies that provide services to Gwinnett residents, businesses, and visitors. From there, the team will recommend funding priorities from the viewpoint of a resident. Presentations from yesterday and today are now available to watch at GCGA.us/BudgetReview. The Department of Planning & Development received a record-breaking nine National Association of Counties achievement awards this year! Projects recognized include the Affordable Housing Development Fund, Gwinnett Entrepreneur Center, 2045 Unified Plan, New Interior Property Maintenance Inspection Program, Gwinnett's Small Business Grant, Redevelop Gwinnett Day event series, amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance, Building a Positive and Inclusive Culture, and New Contractor Registration Process to Streamline Permitting. These incredible achievements highlight the department's commitment to enhancing the well-being of residents and businesses in Gwinnett County by planning for growth and maintaining adopted standards for development. Congratulations!

Don't forget that our Nonprofit Capacity Building Grant is open for applications through August 30! The objective is to increase the effectiveness and strength of local nonprofits to enhance their impact on our community. Nonprofits can apply for capital support or operational support: • Capital support focuses on projects that improve capacity by fulfilling a capital need, such as equipment, software solutions, and vehicles. • Operational support focuses on providing technical assistance and learning modules to grow the organization’s capacity. Being an age-friendly community means that Gwinnett is a place where people of all ages can live, work, and thrive. More than a quarter of our residents are over the age of 50, and we're committed to age-inclusive community planning across all services and programs. Earlier this week, Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson celebrated Gwinnett County as an AARP Age-Friendly Community. Gwinnett residents of all ages are encouraged to help support our seniors and their families today and for future generations to come.

In August 2023, the Department of Transportation expanded the Ride Gwinnett service by introducing microtransit, a shared-ride service that operates on demand. Gwinnett Transportation was honored with a National Association of Counties award for enhancing the Ride Gwinnett microtransit service. The Ride Gwinnett app allows passengers to easily navigate Snellville and Lawrenceville neighborhoods, improving access to essential services like healthcare, education, and local attractions. Since its launch in 2023, the Ride Gwinnett app has received more than 11,000 downloads, showing strong community interest. The service has served more than 107,000 residents, with plans to double this number by adding one new transit zone in 2024.

Have you been to Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful events? Then you may have seen Carmita Rivera! Carmita is the Resources and Marketing Coordinator for Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful. She oversees the development, implementation, and marketing of education and promotional campaigns as well as managing events. Carmita shares, "My favorite part of my job is everything. I love my job, my coworkers, and the family that Gwinnett County is to me. I'm right where I'm supposed to be, and I'm very blessed." She's dedicated to educating and encouraging our community on how to be a more sustainable Gwinnett. When she isn't participating in recycling events or watershed cleanups, Carmita is spending time with her husband of 24 years and her three wonderful boys.

The Department of Community Services received a National Association of Counties achievement award for the Live Healthy Gwinnett Community Dashboard. Residents can visit https://lnkd.in/gnr7EdjW, which provides a user-friendly digital platform filled with crucial data on various aspects of community life.  Covering demographics, education, environment, economy, health, social factors, and equality, this tool empowers decision-making, strategic planning, and collaborative efforts toward a healthier and more equitable future for all residents.
