AlphaLab Health was the perfect springboard for us. The partnership between Innovation Works and Allegheny Health Network gave us a unique blend of expertise and mentorship across healthcare and entrepreneurship, allowing us to iterate our product and go-to-market strategies. By the end of the program, we were accepted into Techstars where we continued to build on our momentum from ALH, tripling our customer count, and helping us close our seed round. We’re very grateful for the opportunities provided to us by AlphaLab Health and know our journey wouldn’t be the same without it.” – Ahmed Marmoush, CEO & Founder of Handl Health Are you ready to embark on your journey? You might have seen that last week we announced the release of the newest version of our network analytics tool, Iris. This isn’t just an exciting announcement for us as a company, but it’s an incredible advancement for the world of employer-sponsored benefits, which has historically relied on carrier “discount” analyses for basic network comparisons. Contrary to status quo solutions, Iris uses data from price transparency MRFs to conduct real-time network analytics based on actual or simulated claims. A process that the industry is used to taking at least 3 weeks can now happen in less than 3 minutes. This version of Iris is only the beginning. We have some incredible features rolling out over the coming months - stay tuned.

🚨 The CMS fined a major hospital!! 🚨 The CMS slapped Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital with a hefty $871,122 fine for not complying with Hospital Price Transparency regulation. According to the report, they’ve been out of compliance since February 7th. As one of the biggest hospitals (by bed count) in the country, this should be a major wake-up call for others. This should also be a reminder that price transparency isn't just a rule! It's about building trust and being fair to patients and our communities.

Welcome to July, folks! As we kick off a new quarter and a holiday week, we’re thrilled about 7/1/2024 for a few more reasons: 🎂 Transparency in Coverage (TiC) turns 2! On July 1, 2022, the first phase of TiC went into effect, making negotiated rates from health plans (carriers and employers) publicly available through machine-readable files. ✅ New CMS-mandated requirements for hospital price transparency take effect today. These updates include (but aren't limited to) a new file format and an attestation that all required data is included and accurate. 👀 Exciting news from Handl Health is on the horizon… Stay tuned!

I recently had the pleasure of co-authoring an article with my Handl Health co-founder Ria Shah and our esteemed advisor Francois de Brantes. In his opinion piece below, Francois hits the nail on the head: Plan discounts are outdated and ineffective, and if you're still using them, it's time to move on. Here's why: -By virtue of what they are, averages dilute spread, and it’s what's in the spread that will drive claims cost, not the aggregate average. -Utilization matters! The facilities and settings where individuals receive care can significantly drive cost, not the average discount. Network evaluation and plan design should be done with real unit prices — the dollars and cents plan sponsors actually pay for care — and within the context of network coverage and provider quality and efficiency. In our article, we discuss the concept of "Network Design 2.0" — the idea that networks should be customized to the needs of the employer and their employees, and configured along with plan designs that optimize for the triple aim: cost, outcomes and experience. Today, employers are being forced into a one-size-fits-all model that’s simply not working. Just look at the numbers. The data and tools are out there. The time to change is now. What's stopping you?
