Congratulations to Maria Bandouveres who is celebrating 80 years of civil service! In 1944, Maria Bandouveres began her federal career as a clerk-typist during World War II. More than 80 years later, she continues to serve our nation at Hanscom Air Force Base (Mass.) "Her most important role has been a guardian of our ideals through time," said Maj Gen Anthony Genatempo, reflecting on Maria's remarkable career. Today, officials honored Maria's unparalleled dedication with a ceremony recognizing her 80 years of federal service.

Thanks to NSIN - National Security Innovation Network’s Bootcamp program, Hanscom Air Force Base (Mass.) personnel are learning human-centered design principles and how to apply them to solve real-world challenges for the United States Air Force. During an Aug. 12-15 session of the program, participants focused on identifying how Team Hanscom might use technology forecasting to create more informed decisions. Fifteen participants worked in four teams to identify and pitch solutions related to adopting automation to increase capacity; developing a virtual assistant that acts as a force multiplier; leveraging homomorphic encryption to do secure calculations; and implementing a “checkmate” acquisition method to ensure emerging technologies and active threats are proactively considered throughout the program life cycle. Deputy Associate Director for Engineering and Technical Management, Lt. Col. Col. Fred E. Garcia II assumed leadership of the Cyber and Networks Directorate’s Enterprise IT and Cyber Infrastructure Division during a ceremony at Hanscom Air Force Base, July 19. He succeeds Col. Justin Collins, who is preparing to retire. The division is part of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Cyber and Networks Directorate that develops, delivers, and sustains war-winning IT and cyber capabilities for the Air Force. Hanscom AFB's partnership with MassChallenge reached new heights during the fifth Air Force Labs showcase held recently in Boston. Team Hanscom leadership left inspired by the groundbreaking innovations presented by startups, tackling key challenges in AI, drones, cybersecurity, and more. Maj Gen Anthony Genatempo, PEO, Cyber and Networks Directorate, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, was among those representing Hanscom. “I was introduced to MassChallenge two years ago,” he said. “And I still feel like I’m learning something new every day about the information domain.” Col. William Collins Jr., acting PEO, Electronic Systems, AFLCMC, was also impressed. “It’s inspiring to watch as we partner through MassChallenge so we can deliver capability to the warfighter,” he said. “I hope as part of this engagement we can accelerate capabilities and take advantage of this great partnership.” This collaboration exemplifies the installation’s commitment to accelerating high-impact technologies for the warfighter. 🚨 Hanscom AFB Welcomes New Command Team 🇺🇸 Col. Jorge Jimenez assumed command of the 66th Air Base Group during a ceremony on July 10. Prior to taking command, Jimenez served as Headquarters U.S. Indo-Pacific Command comptroller at Camp Smith, Hawaii. In this position, he provided fiscal oversight and financial management support to the INDOPACOM mission. Chief Master Sgt. Jason Vollmer assumed command chief duties on July 9. Vollmer previously served as the senior enlisted leader of The 350th Spectrum Warfare Group at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Weather Systems Branch at Hanscom Air Force Base recently awarded a contract to Tomorrow Companies Inc., to build on a weather data constellation in orbit. Funded through the Accelerate the Procurement and Fielding of Innovative Technologies program, the contract supports the development and launch of two microwave sounder satellites. The final constellation will consist of 18 microwave sounders and 12 microwave radar satellites. The Boston-based company, also known as Tomorrow.io was awarded the $10.2 million contract to manufacture, build and deliver two additional microwave satellites to orbit, where they will provide a cumulative 10 months of data across all on-orbit microwave sounder satellites. A 50-year lease agreement and contract modification will transition more than 64 acres and 22 buildings from Hanscom Air Force Base to MIT Lincoln Laboratory to enable modernization. MIT LL is a United States Department of Defense-sponsored Federally Funded Research and Development Center, or FFRDC, operated by MIT as a public service on a no loss, no gain basis and provides research and development pertinent to national defense. The purpose of the new arrangement is to improve the execution of the FFRDC prime contract that is managed by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Strategic Services Division at Hanscom AFB. #MIT #defense #FFRDC #research #development
