#WHA77 was a great week of events and meeting people with common goals and vision. Our team at the The Global Surgery Foundation is especially thankful for all the engagement at our Special Side Event: Unleashing Powerful Partnerships for Women’s Health Equity. It was a FULL HOUSE and we had an amazing discussion. The video is now available for those who missed it.

A very special thanks to our panelists. The final comments from each were powerful and left us all with a strong impression of the pathway forward:
Rifat Atun: "Collaborate more, but make it happen in the countries"
Sanjana Bhardwaj, MD, MPH, FFPH: "Think BIG and AMBITIOUS... but also think through the details and make it happen"
Leticia (Tisha) Boatman: "Focus on breakthroughs in healthcare for every woman, everywhere.... and not just technologies"
Dr. Anshu Banerjee: "You do not have a health system if you cannot provide surgical care"
Dr Kennedy Lishimpi: "Surgery is the cornerstone of strengthening healthcare systems..... and that stone is back!"
A big thank you also to our formidable moderator, Femi Oke, who made the evening an amazing time. I have rarely seen such an enjoyable discussion... Thank you, Femi !
We were also inspired by our AMAZING "Firestarter", Professor Hadiza Galadanci, who brought the conversation back to the reason we do this work.... the patient. You really need to listen to her stories !!
The evening showed that together in partnerships, we can achieve our goals. We are very thankful for the welcome addresses from Carlos Castillejos, M.D. DrPH. from Johnson & Johnson, Ambassador Anna Horner from the Swiss Permanent Mission to the UN and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
There is much more to do... but together we can achieve what seems impossible.
