Day 1 at the Health Technology Assessment international (HTAi) annual meeting in sunny Sevilla, Spain. Excellent keynote presentation from Prof Rifat Atun, Harvard University. He spoke about HTA's role in supporting health system sustainability. * He called the HTA community as "system shapers" that can promote both value for money and value for many (equity). * The aim for HTA is to help policy makers take a longer term and more societal view of a health technology, as opposed to considering only the short term budgetary cycle, and * The evaluation of technology performance should occur throughout the whole lifecycle of the technology to ensure delivery and implementation are efficient. “HTA can move from being gatekeepers to system shapers,” said Harvard University’s Professor Rifat Atun in the opening keynote at #HTAi2024 in Seville. Prof Atun highlighted the challenges for health systems to be responsive and resilient, and therefore #sustainable. He said too often health systems focus on short-term budget costs rather than long-term health and economic gains, including #productivity. As Australia reviews its #HTA, will the Australian Government stick with short-sighted budget impact or position Australia to benefit from health innovation through better HTA? 🚀 Venture Incubation Program Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health🚀 👉 We at zophIA would like to share our enriching experience in the Venture Incubation Program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Our goal of revolutionizing mental health diagnostics has gained a new dimension thanks to this program. Here are the highlights from each week: 📌 Week 1: Refining Our Idea During the first week, we worked intensively to refine our proposal, focusing on how zophIA can use speech analysis to provide earlier and more accurate diagnoses of mental disorders. The guidance we received helped clarify our purpose and strengthen our vision. Mentors: Beth Ann Lopez / Dilpreet Sahota 📌Week 2: Business Model, Strategy, and Strategic Positioning In the second week, we delved into developing a solid business model. We explored market strategies and strategic positioning to ensure that zophIA is well-prepared to positively impact the mental health sector. Mentors: Aslan Maleki / Rifat Atun 📌Week 3: Market Strategy and Product Design During the third week, we focused on our market strategy and product design. We learned how to align our product with user needs, ensuring that our solution is practical, intuitive, and effective. Mentors: 🎯 Mark Freeman II / Caleb J Kumar 📌 Week 4: Growth, Funding, Financial Projections, Hiring, and Team Building The final week was dedicated to the growth and sustainability of zophIA. We discussed funding strategies, financial projections, and best practices for hiring and building a strong, cohesive team. 🤯 Yesterday, I was invited to speak at a Harvard startup incubator... and somehow, that wasn't even the most exciting experience of the day. What was? Meeting four new AI companies that I think can genuinely change the world! 🚀 Specifically, I had the privilege of meeting the four finalists of Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab's Venture Incubation Program. They are going well beyond just AI chatbots and instead building AI products that can save lives. 👇🏽 Here's what they are building: 📌 S.N.I.F.F. (Smart Neoplasm Identification by Fume Fingerprinting): • Uses AI to provide real-time analysis of tissues during breast cancer surgery • In addition, it helps surgeons ensure they fully excise cancerous tissue. • Founding Team: - Felipe Andrade Villalobos - Ignacio Moscoso Gutierrez - Maximiliano Mariné - Javier Andres Castro Guevara - Rosario Willatt Contardo 📌 ZophIA: • Uses AI to diagnose mental health disorders in real-time via speech analysis. • They currently have a clinical research paper published on using the tool to diagnose schizophrenia. • Founding Team: - Danielle Pepe - Jones Albuquerque - Arthur Leitão - Lucas Soares - Túlio Pimentel 📌 SweetAudio: • Uses AI to analyze vocal biomarkers to non-invasively monitor glucose • Managing diabetes is expensive and hard, and this tool can be a supplement to provide more consistent support. • Founding Team: - Hein Thu - Runa Khan - Caiwei Tian - Jessica Huang 📌 AI Pathology: • Uses AI to screen for skin cancer through smartphone photos • Furthermore, it caters to diverse skin tones to support early detection. • Founding Team: - Willian Peter Boelcke - Lucas Lacerda de Souza - Giovani Fogalli - Lucas Soares Amaral - Eduardo Kobal Fregati 🧡 What stood out the most to me was how mission-driven these teams were in helping improve the lives of patients. Just left this inspiring panel with global and local partners committed to “Leveraging data for #Type1Diabetes”. Fantastic discussions between Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab, The Global Fund and World Health Organization at this years World Health Assembly with Novo Nordisk. Such a pleasure to reflect on ambitions of reaching Global Diabetes Compact Goals, lessons learnt from other diseases and how to drive inclusive partnerships. Thank you to the esteemed delegates from Ministries of Health from Malaysia 🇲🇾, Ethiopia 🇪🇹, Guinea 🇬🇳, hosted by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs 🇩🇰.
