During a routine day at home, Kimberly Cansler, a 44-year old mother of nine children, suddenly felt her leg go numb. "I started hysterically crying at that point because I knew I was having a stroke," said Kimberly. She is the director of HCA Healthcare at Home, a service that provides home health expertise and resources for patients as they transition to care outside the hospital setting. Given her role in healthcare, she recognized the symptoms immediately and knew she was having a stroke. Stroke is the number five cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States. Early stroke detection and treatment are vital to improving survival, minimizing disability and accelerating recovery times. Congratulations to Heidi Schubert who has been promoted to the LEAD Associate position on the Health Information Management team. In her new position, formerly known as the Director in Training program, she will serve as the interim HIMD at HCA Florida Englewood Hospital. Heidi started career as a Financial Analyst, spent 4 years in international project management in various countries in Europe. She also served in Demand Management and Forecasting for an international orthopedic manufacturer. After moving to the United States, she served in healthcare as surgical support technician, pharmacy technician and since 2019 as HIM Specialist. Joined the HCA family in October, 2017. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Finance, Taxation and Auditing at University of Applied Science, Mainz, Germany and her RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician in Santa Fe College, Gainesville, FL After working for HCA Florida Fawcett and HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospitals, she is thrilled to land a position in Englewood, her “hometown” since 2015. She said, "I love this town, and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else." She loves to volunteer for organizations including the Chalk Festival of Venice, Sea turtle patrol for Coastal Wildlife Club, and more recently, stage management at Lemon Bay Playhouse. Having a 'ruff' day? This will make you smile. Meet our pet therapy dogs and handlers! They are valued members of the animal therapy program at HCA Florida Englewood Hospital. Facility, service and therapy dogs have touched countless lives and brought smiles to patients, their loved ones and our care teams. Hospital colleagues collected seven boxes of food and supplies for the Suncoast Humane Society who provides this service. These canine caregivers enjoyed a party with special toys, treats and bandanas supplied by Lifelink of Florida. The hospital announced a $500 donation to support the program as well. Long time handler, Mary Szydlowski, visits patients and colleagues with her labradoodle, Max. She said, "The thing that I find every time I come here is that the patients and their visitors say, "You made my day" and we watch the stress leave their face. They light up. It's remarkable." The Employee Advisory Group for HCA Florida Englewood Hospital is collecting supply for the organization On the Spot, an organization formed during the pandemic to provide first aid to the homeless. They travel to homeless camps, park benches, and food distribution centers to treat wounds of the homeless population. Now through August 30, we are collecting items most needed for the homeless population including first aid supplies, cases of water, toiletry kits (mostly male), canes, and twin sheets (fitted and flat), in new or like-new, freshly cleaned condition.
