Our community loves our pediatrics unit, and we are so thankful for the many organizations that support our patients, including Kayla Cares 4 Kids. Kayla and her team of awesome volunteers once again celebrated our kiddos with a donation of 10 tablet PCs valuing a whopping $21K! The tablet PCs were given to Kayla Cares 4 Kids through a partnership with Stryker, a medical technology company based in Ft. Lauderdale. Kayla Cares 4 Kids is a non-profit organization founded by Kayla Abramowitz. After she and her brother both experienced long stays in pediatric hospitals, Kayla founded the organization in 2013 and has since touched the lives more nearly 300,000 children and families across the country. They are also responsible for the beautiful transformation of our pediatric playroom in 2022. Kayla holds a special place in her heart for Palms West as she was a patient in our unit in her youth. And we have a special place in our heart for Kayla and her amazing team. Thank you for holding our children in your heart. Summer months are often filled with travelling for long periods of time. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or blood clots can be a serious risk for travelers. Sitting slows blood flow in the legs, which can increase the likelihood of clotting. Dr. Brian Kelly, vascular surgeon at HCA Florida Palms West Hospital spoke to Erin Guy WPBF of WPBF 25 News this week about risks and preventative measures to help avoid DVTs. Vascular surgeons, are specialist who diagnose and treat problems with your blood vessels. You have 60,000 miles of blood vessels throughout your body. These include arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels. You might need to see a vascular doctor if you're at high risk of vascular disease because of your diabetes, high blood pressure and use of tobacco products. HCA Florida Healthcare has a comprehensive vascular program. https://bit.ly/3SaYtIy #WellnessWednesday #healthiertogether #vascularsurgery #bloodclots #DVT

Recently, Mauricellys took the time to write about the excellent care her mom, Aida, has received while in our care. From the security, EVS (cleaning), FANS (food services), ER, and respiratory, to 3N, nursing, and ICU teams, she sang our praises. "It's not just a paycheck; it's how the patient and the family feel when their heart is in the job," she said. When we say #CareLikeFamily we mean it. #MissionMomentMonday If you or your loved one need surgery, hospitalization or ER services, we encourage you to experience the difference we make.
