Thanks to WOWT and the Daily Nonpareil for covering Heartland Family Service's unclaimed property check presentation Tuesday. HFS was joined by the State Treasurer of Iowa. We were given a check worth more than $12,000 because our agency discovered through the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt that we had unclaimed funds. Formally observed as a federal holiday beginning in 2021 with celebrations dating back to the 19th Century, Juneteenth honors the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the Civil War.
