Hickory Nut Gap is not only run by farmers, we also partner with like minded family farms in our region. As farmers, we believe in partnering with chefs and other customers to improve agriculture through the shared values of hard work, responsible land stewardship, and great food. Our focus is sharing the family farm experience and aligning our values with your values. Animals are raised healthily and humanely, products are packaged professionally, and our farms and the environment we steward are cared for and productive. We encourage folks to be curious about agriculture and to care about the farms and communities where their food is grown. We are proud to offer incredible meats that taste great and are grown responsibly. OUR ASHEVILLE FARM: Our farm in Asheville, NC has been in the family since 1916. In 2008, it was opened to the public. Now, customers can experience farming and what it means to farm responsibly through their many events, tours, and seasonal offerings. Meats are sold in both wholesale and retail options, and the local farm store proudly offers an on-site butchery for many retail custom cuts.

This is the farm crew earlier this week gearing up for work after lunch. It was enormous and they got a lot done and had a lot of fun doing it. Thanks to Cory Carman for sharing the teenager ranch hands from Carman Ranch here at Hickory Nut Gap. All these young folks are interested in agriculture and conservation and working hard. Super proud of them for digging in and being helpful.

Happy Monday morning on July 1st! I thought it would be nice to send out the sunrise as we enter the heart of summer time here at the farm. It’s been a busy spring here at Hickory Nut Gap with plenty of rain through May but we are starting to get a little dry. The good news is that with regenerative grazing, there is plenty of soil cover and very little bare ground so when we do get a short rain or heavy dew in the morning, the shaded soil surface stays cool and the moisture has a chance to stay in contact with the soil longer. A big benefit of regenerative grazing is resiliency to drought. Keep up the good work everyone!

We were thrilled to participate in and host a Regenerative Agriculture On-Farm Education Event in collaboration with our friends at Land to Market and Caney Fork Farms. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Caney Fork Farms, our Farm Director, Virginia Hamilton, conducted an enlightening field demonstration on EOV (Ecological Outcome Verification). Additionally, our friend Asher Wright, Caney Fork's Farm Director, delivered an engaging talk covering topics ranging from grazing practices and land management to crop rotation and cattle. Many thanks to the hardworking folks that helped put this event together; it was truly a pleasure to see old friends and get down in the dirt! The science behind EOV is brought to you by the Savory Institute. The Addys. We rarely enter competitions. They can feel cold and a little disconnected from reality. However, we've continued to enter the American Advertising Federation's Addy Awards for the pure fact that they start at the local level, move through regionals, and then to nationals. There's no doubt that winning nationals Addy's is fantastic, and we've been blessed to have been on that platform a few times, but… and this is a big but, we get so much more out of gathering with fellow "local" creatives and experiencing their work right along side of ours. With that and our incredible clients like FreshDirect that allowed us to bring a strategic, storytelling approach to their campaigns, we're truly honored to have had another successful year with AAF Baltimore, bringing home 4 Gold and 1 Silver Addys for the work we did together last year.
