Recently, Hillel International held our annual New Professionals Institute to connect new Hillel staffers with their peers from all over the world. We caught up with Hailey Smilowitz, an incoming Springboard Fellow at Muhlenberg College! “It’s been an incredible experience, where I’ve met so many different people from across the United States and Canada. Every person here brings a different perspective, and hearing their stories has been inspiring,” says Hailey. Yesterday marked 300 days since October 7, and Jewish college students won’t stop advocating for the hostages being held in Gaza. UF Hillel students stood in the middle of campus, with "Bring Them Home” dog tags and a sign urging the release of those still in captivity. #BringThemHome 🎗️

300 days in captivity, 300 days since Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel, and 300 days since our lives were forever changed. We can’t believe it’s been almost a year since October 7, when over a thousand innocent women, men, and children were brutally murdered and kidnapped. Every day, Jewish college students from around the world are praying and advocating for the release of each and every hostage. Our hearts are in the Middle East, always. #BringThemHome 🎗️

With the new academic year fast approaching, colleges and universities need to know how to take action against antisemitism. Following a steep rise in antisemitic incidents on college campuses, Anti-Defamation League, American Jewish Committee (AJC), the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Hillel International, and Jewish Federations of North America, along with more than a dozen supporting organizations, are providing recommendations to help college administrators prepare for the fall semester. We need colleges and universities to step up for their Jewish students and campus communities -- read more about how they can do so here ➡️ https://ow.ly/nN9650SO58a

Grace Overman is a student at UCLA and she is disabled, Jewish and PROUD! Grace says Hillel at UCLA and its incredible staff have always prioritized making events accessible to all, and going out of their way to make sure she can be and feel included. Hillel has changed her as a person, helped her become a leader - and even supported her in getting a disability club up and running. As we close out Disability Pride Month, read about Grace’s experience with her Hillel community ⬇️ https://ow.ly/JA6r50SNv5T

Alex Davidson, a then-student at the University of Maryland, never expected to save a little girl’s life -- but that’s exactly what he did. Hillel had sponsored “Terp Thon” in 2013 to raise money for the Children’s National Hospital. The event featured Gift of Life, an organization that works to cure blood cancers and other disorders through cellular therapy. Alex joined their registry, not realizing that several years later he would match with Addie, a seven-year-old girl with severe aplastic anemia. These Jewish students give us hope! 👏 Jewish students from campuses across the country spoke at a roundtable hosted by the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism. The six students spoke about their challenging experiences with antisemitism during the past school year, expressed the urgent need for colleges and universities to take action and prevent antisemitism, and discussed their hopes for the future.
