I am deeply honored to have been part of the coordination and facilitation team for the Hispanic Heritage Foundation National LOFT Leadership Institute Summit 2024. Witnessing the incredible achievements and continuous positive drive of these outstanding students has been immensely inspiring. Their leadership and insights to make the world a better place fill my heart and continue renewing my faith in the future. I couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of you—our Youth Awardees from across the nation, Trinity students, and Tec de Monterrey students who came all the way from Mexico. Thank you young leaders of today for coming together and teaching us! This experience has left me with a profound sense of hope and motivation. Thank you also to all the professionals who acted as speakers, mentors and facilitators for these curious and driven students during this week long program. We couldn’t have made it happen without you! We greatly value your time and commitment to supporting our youth and bringing positive change to the world. And a special thanks to Antonio Tijerino, Jasmin Zamorano and Juan Sepúlveda for leading the program, huge privilege to serve along you! What can more than 140 participants do during an “Open Space Session”? Here are some examples of how the students at the Hispanic Heritage Foundation LOFT Leaders Institute did it in San Antonio: - Rachel Fernandez organized a one-hour “Coding in Python” session. - Kim Cortes-Martinez and Lukas Garcia joined efforts and hosted a session around LinkedIn and how to leverage its power to connect. - Kim also organized a dance battle with Makyla Cervantes! I was asked to join the dance team and our winning choreography and performance stole the show - real talk! - Another student taught a session on the Nahuatl Language where I learned one of my favorite new words “Tonatzin“, which means Earth 🌎, or “Our Sacred Mother”. - The students from Puerto Rico used Bad Bunny’s “El Apagón” video to bring awareness to the issues and political activism in the country. They also showed the speech from 2022 HHA Awardee Residente. Among other topics, the students self-organized and lead sessions on mental health awareness, immigration issues, hiking & gardening, how to get your research published, and even created a “Welcome Poster” for next year’s LLI Summit participants. That’s how you lead with other generations in mind! Hector Araujo Antonio Tijerino Juan Sepúlveda Nicolás Peña Teresa Cronin Stephanie Montaño Sabas Gomez #OpenSpace #HHF #LLI2024 #Tonatzin
