HKS' very own Meggie Meidlinger is a project architect in our Sports practice who designs world-class venues for athletes. But what takes her talent as a designer to the next level is that she is also a member of the Women's National Baseball team. She not only designs these spaces — she uses them too. Meggie's recent work was with the renovation and upgrade to the University of Georgia's Foley Field baseball facility. She brought her own experiences to the project, helping to create a space that works for those athletes. Read on to see how Meggie's two worlds cross paths. ⏩ sbjsbd.com/BbC2LTFt Sports Business Journal/Bret McCormick #sports #design #architecture

“Exponential ecology” was the given phrase when designing UC San Diego’s Theatre District Living and Learning Neighborhood. At every design decision, at every scale, the project embodied a connection to nature and place to promote human wellness and responsibility to the planet. The HKS design team led a series of stakeholder sessions to develop a project programing, employing primary and secondary research to address key outcomes to enhance the student experience. The new El Paso VA Health Care Center celebrated its groundbreaking this week! The facility will be a 492,000-square-foot ambulatory care located on the William Beaumont Army Medical Center campus. HKS' Brent Willson, Anthony Montalto and Jim Whitaker, FAIA, FDBIA attended the milestone event alongside our partners on the project — Clark Construction Group, SmithGroup, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Brent Wilson, Studio Practice Leader for Federal Health, is helping to lead the work for HKS on this project and shares the impact it will have on veterans. “We not only wanted to create a place that honored and served the Veterans but also one that felt like it could only belong in this place and to serve the El Paso community,” says Brent. “We’re extremely proud of the result, especially knowing the facility will provide top-level care for our nation’s heroes.” Read on about what's to come for the project. https://hks.onl/3z04gKn #design #architecture

The Kentucky Exposition Center (KEC) celebrated its groundbreaking last week! HKS is proud to partner with Schmidt Associates to lead the design for the renovation and expansion of the project. Known for hosting some of the largest events in Kentucky and beyond, the venue is set to undergo a multi-phase project to create an even greater experience for all who visit. HKS' Anthony Montalto shares the vision for the Center and the impact it will bring to Kentucky. "The Kentucky Exposition Center expansion and renovation is more than just a structural upgrade; it's a transformative investment in the future of Kentucky and the surrounding region. This project is special because it not only modernizes one of the state's most iconic venues but also reimagines it as a hub for innovation, community engagement, and economic growth. By creating versatile, state-of-the-art spaces, we are empowering the Center to attract larger, more diverse events, which in turn will drive tourism, create jobs, and stimulate local businesses. The enhanced venue will serve as a catalyst for change, elevating Kentucky's profile on a national stage and providing a dynamic space where the community can come together, celebrate, and build a stronger future." #design #architecture

As the saying goes, home is where the heart is — no matter your age. HKS' Senior Living practice designs with empathy, making sure to create spaces that celebrate elders' abilities, adapt to their changing needs and cultivate community. To support people's desire to age in place, the latest designs for senior living communities provide the comforts of home in an environment that meets seniors' changing needs as they grow older. “Environments that are safe, adaptable and bring people together help seniors live full, dignified lives. As designers, we want to help people live comfortably and independently for as long as possible,” says Siobhan Farvardin, AIA, LEED AP — Global Practice Leader, Senior Living. HKS-designed Vivante Newport Center is a successful example of the aging in place model. Read on to learn why. #seniorliving #adaptabledesign #architecture
