The Holos team celebrated the grand opening of Isla Intersections, our most innovative site to date, on June 15th, 2024! We were honored to be joined by Mayor Karen Bass, Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Chairman, CEO and President of the Annenberg Foundation Wallis Annenberg, for this grand opening. This event marked the achievement of reaching completion on 54 modular, strategically arranged apartments built with shipping containers in a formerly undeveloped, city-owned lot located off the intersection of the 110 and 105, complete with a grey water system and a “Living Lung” to help with noise and air pollution. We are grateful for the support from our partners in reaching this momentous milestone: American Family Housing, Inc., Annenberg Foundation, Councilmember Harris-Dawson, Mayor Karen Bass, Lorcan O'Herlihy Architects [LOHA], Geis Construction, Primus Building Solutions, KeyBank, Enterprise Community Partners, the Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD), HACLA and more. We could not have built Isla without your support. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gQjQ7pzH

This weekend we celebrate the grand opening of Isla Intersections Supportive Housing and Paseo, designed in collaboration with Holos Communities. Thank you again to Cristian Ahumada for your dedicated work providing affordable housing in the city of Los Angeles. All of the new tenants have been selected for their new homes at Isla Intersections and are preparing to move in over the next few weeks. The 35,000 square foot, 54-unit housing project and adjacent paseo, known as the Isla Intersections, is situated on a 19,814 square-foot triangular site uniting a traffic island and a former railroad right of way. Located within close proximity to one of the world’s busiest freeway interchanges, the meeting of the 110 and 105 freeways, the design makes a challenging location more livable. Holos Communities broke ground with city officials and funders on the future home for Loma Verde on May 16. With 18 units in a 4,500 single family lot, Loma Verde will set an example on how to bring density in the nooks and crannies of the City of Los Angeles. This site represents a joint effort between Restore Neighborhoods LA, Holos Communities and Genesis LA, showcasing how developers and community development financial institutions can adapt to a changing landscape to create housing in the wake of the pandemic and inflation. Thanks to our funders and speakers that joined us - Jenna Hornstock, Hon AIA, Senior Advisor for Housing, Mayor Karen Bass, Michael Batistick, Senior Homelessness Deputy for Hugo Soto-Martinez, Council District 13 Councilmember, Tom De Simone, Genesis LA President & CEO, and John Perfitt, Restore Neighborhoods Los Angeles Executive Director. Thank you to our speakers Michael Maltzan, Alexis Laing, John Maceri and Charlene Dimas-Peinado for taking the time to join us and speak about innovative solutions to the housing crisis that we're working on together. “’This project challenges the restrictively zoned single-story residential suburban track model that revolves around the automobile and contributes so much to LA’s housing crisis,’ says Cristian Ahumada. ‘And when addressing this crisis, of which homelessness is a very visible part, it’s impossible not to talk about global warming and social equity.’” Read how Isla Intersections is converting underutilized land into homes that clean the air and support tenants in this Fast Company piece by Ben Ikenson: https://lnkd.in/gyA5-Tcq Lorcan O'Herlihy Architects [LOHA]
