  • For the third year running, we were proud to partner with The Business Council of Westchester for the HSS Day of Wellness at the Scarsdale Golf Club in Westchester County. The event which promotes healthy activity and mental wellness, attracted a strong turnout under sunny skies for golf, tennis, yoga and guided relaxation. Justin Oppenheimer, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy, Growth, and Transformation Officer, welcomed the golfers and thanked the club, its staff and others who made the day possible. Justin teamed with New York Knicks legend John Starks, Frank Mennone, Senior Director of Community & Physician Engagement, and friend Jesse Santamaria on the golf course. Drs. Christine Yu and Jennifer Berger, perioperative medicine physicians, took to the courts for a vigorous afternoon of tennis. Dr. Jacklyn McKenna, primary sports medicine physician, provided closing remarks at the evening cocktail reception. She congratulated all participants, spoke about the many offerings at HSS Westchester, and expressed HSS’ appreciation in being able to sponsor the event.

  • Through the Healthy People 2030 program, the federal government has, for the first time, set a national target for youth sports participation: 63% by the year 2030. We are excited to announce our support of The Aspen Institute’s commitment as a member of the 63X30 roundtable to increase youth sports participation. The mental and physical health benefits of playing sports are profound; benefits that have been denied to many youths whose participation rates have fallen since the pandemic. Members of the roundtable are committing to taking actions that can increase and maintain youth participation in sports—from creating safer and more affordable programs in underserved neighborhoods to promoting multi-sport sampling and developing more coaches to meet children’s needs. HSS is proud to be part of the catalyst for change. Aspen Institute Sports & Society

  • For most of us, the level of speed that professional sprinters achieve is something we will never experience in our lives. They are literally testing the limits of human motion every time they compete. This is “The Science of Sprinting.” Each episode of this new, original 10-episode series delivers an insider POV as athletes and HSS clinicians explore the science behind these incredible feats of athleticism.

  • Maureen Heneghan, physician assistant: "To me, embracing Pride comes easy and goes beyond the month of June. I celebrate diversity, love, and acceptance in my family every day throughout the year. Teaching my daughter and son the importance of inclusivity can be challenging, but modeling an accepting environment and treating all people with kindness and respect is an ongoing effort in our two-mom family. Being part of the HSS family that supports #LGBTQIA+ patients and staff means there is always someone who cares about you. My colleagues are my close friends. Having the support of colleagues when navigating through both work and personal challenges is important, especially when seeking advice on fun-size humans. Likewise, standing in solidarity with my colleagues at HSS allows patients to feel safe and accepted in a particularly vulnerable time surrounding their health." #PrideMonth

  • Runner? Jumper? Thrower? If you ask a heptathlete, they’ll tell you all the above. While most professional athletes get to focus on trying to be the best at one sport, this event requires heptathletes to be a master of them all. This is “The Science of Heptathlon.” Each episode of this new, original 10-episode series delivers an insider POV as athletes and HSS clinicians explore the science behind these incredible feats of athleticism.
