Filling pantries. Filling lives.
About us
Houston Food Bank’s mission is to provide food for better lives. Each year, Hh provides access to more than 150 million meals and in FY 2021, a year of COVID response, we made 207 million meals possible in 18 counties in southeast Texas through our 1,600 community partners of food pantries, soup kitchens, social service providers and schools. Filling gaps on plates, we have a strong focus on healthy foods and fresh produce. In collaboration with our community, we advocate for policy change and racial equity, and promote dialogue on ways to increase access to food and to improve the lives of those in our communities, including services and connections to programs that address the root causes of hunger and are aimed at helping families achieve long-term stability: nutrition education, health management, and help with securing state-funded assistance. We are a resource for individuals and families in times of hardship. Houston Food Bank works alongside our partner food banks in Montgomery County, Galveston Country, and Brazos Valley. Houston Food Bank is a certified member of Feeding America, the nation’s food bank network, with a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

Houston Food Bank offers sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. She worked closely with the Food Bank to decrease food insecurity and was a champion against the systemic injustices that drive it. May we all fight, like she did, what seem like impossible odds to make the world a better place.

Every disaster box has a story. 📦❤️ When #HurricaneBeryl traveled through Houston, it left over 2.5 million people without power. Families were faced with unpredicted challenges and lost their food. In the wake of this devastation, our community came together to support families hit by the storm. Today, we are deeply thankful to ConocoPhillips for their $100,000 donation. This generous contribution allows us to add more to our disaster boxes and reach more families affected by the hurricane. 🍽️ Thank you, ConocoPhillips, for helping us continue our disaster relief efforts. Together, we are ensuring that those impacted by the storm have the resources they need to recover. 💚 Looking to help? 🚨 Emergency Response in Action! 🚨 When a hurricane impacts our region, Houston Food Bank mobilizes as an emergency response organization to support our 18-county service area. Here's how it works: 🍏 Step 1: Asks Our teams work with various organizations to receive financial, food and product donations which are all needed during disaster-relief. 💚 Step 2: Volunteer Efforts Our incredible volunteers sort food, clean items, and pack boxes to make sure everything is safe and ready for distributions. 🚛 Step 3: Distribution The food is then distributed to communities close to home. 🍽️ 🙌 Step 4: Giving Finally, our partners distribute the food to our neighbors. 📦 ❤️ Finding the nearest food distribution helps them save vital resources like gas, money, and time.
