Learning Lab Wichita celebrated the ribbon cutting of their new space, built inside of Wichita’s historic Union Station. This project was such a unique opportunity for our team to repurpose part of a building with a rich history and transform it into something that will help educate the future of Wichita.    Hutton and education go hand-in-hand, so when Learning Lab Wichita came to us with this idea for an innovative new learning space, the choice was clear. Working with Alloy Architecture, we transformed the space into a unique learning center for Wichita-area students.    Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce

This 19,000 SF addition to Bible Christian Church has made a major difference to this Garden City church. Designed by Mantel Teter, this project includes a new sanctuary with 500 seats, lobby, offices, restrooms, and expanded parking, bringing much-needed space for growth to the community. This church is a major community hub for the Garden City area, and we are proud to have brought their vision to life alongside Mantel Teter.

The Docking State Office Building in Topeka, KS is really starting to take shape. Check out our progress on this big project! The Hutton Design+Build team has been hard at work closing in the next edition of this historic building, scheduled for completion in 2025.    The new building will add some amazing new features for the community, like an exhibition space, a café, a gym, a health clinic and an event center, all housed in this new space, designed by clark | huesemann and PGAV Architects. This project carries with it the spirit of Docking, using granite, marble, and limestone that was saved from the original Docking’s deconstruction.

Today, students at USD 360 Caldwell Schools cut the ribbon on the district's new Early Childhood Center. This project was completed over the past six months and gives parents of the district an affordable childcare option. At more than 5,000 SF, the building was designed by SPT Architecture and completed by us in time for the start of the school year. This is one of nine school projects completed by Hutton before the end of summer in time for the school year to begin. We’re continuing work on Caldwell’s new high school, which is progressing on schedule.

A new addition to the Hutton Facility Services office, these solar panels were installed by our very own Hutton Energy Services. This 11KW system is estimated to offset 75% of the building’s energy usage. These are bifacial panels, which means there are sensors on the bottom that can absorb energy reflected from below. They’re also tilted at 5% to optimize production in the summer when bills are the highest and can free up roof space for additional panels.     If your business is considering switching your energy system to solar, talk to our energy services team. Last week, Hutton CEO Ben Hutton had the honor of speaking at this month’s Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce Sunrise Scrambler. In front of a room full of Wichita leaders, he shared his story of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania last year and what he learned about business, adventure and discovery.  Ben’s story of climbing the mountain's 19,340 feet of elevation inspired the room with his vulnerability. He charged leaders with committing to doing hard things, not limiting ourselves, and finishing strong. In a room full of leaders, we’re proud of Ben for using his story for inspiration.

Continuing to highlight the back-to-school work we have built this summer, Hutton Design+Build completed six projects for Wichita Public Schools - USD259, including work at North High School, Lawrence Elementary, Griffith Elementary, Cessna Elementary and Wilbur Middle School.    In addition to that, we supported the district’s nutrition services team with 12,000 SF of upgrades. This work included the completion of a freezer addition, a dock expansion and warehouse receiving door replacement, all completed before the start of the school year. The freezer addition is shown below. This addition stores food for kids across the district and can reach a temperature of -10 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Another school project finished just in time for the start of the school year: Phase one of HESSTON USD 460's two-story classroom addition, designed by SPT Architecture. They cut the ribbon this weekend to kick start the new school year with brand new SPED rooms, study rooms, general use classrooms and a new two-stop elevator. The additional phases of the 31,000 SF addition are still under construction and will be complete in the coming months. These additions will include a new auxiliary gym, storm shelter addition, a new 680-seat auditorium remodel, and remodels to the FACS, choral, band and office spaces.
