John Nakahata, Steven Fredley, Kristine Devine, and Daeyeong Kim recently published the HWG Advisory “FCC Issues Next Generation 911 Rules,” outlining the Federal Communications Commission’s recent Report and Order requiring certain telecommunications providers to coordinate with 911 Authorities to advance the transition to Next Generation 911 and establishing a framework for cost allocation between service providers and Authorities in complying with these new requirements. In the recent HWG Energy Advisory “Data Centers: Artificial Intelligence Spurs Need for More Energy Efficiency,” Sean Lev, John A. Hodges, and Jason Neal explore recent federal and state regulatory and legislative developments that have been prompted by the impact of artificial intelligence on the energy use of data centers. The advisory highlights National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA)’s current Request for Comments on the potential implications of anticipated data center growth and on the best policies to support the industry’s development, supply chain resilience, and data security.
