We are excited to see you in less than a month at the 2024 Idaho Health Care Association Annual Convention. Starting on the 15th of July is our Keith Holloway Golf Classic. We’re really going to celebrate this golf tournament and the life of Keith. We appreciate everything he has done for our industry!! July 16th – 18th is our convention, and we hope to see you there. We are going to celebrate YOU and the extraordinary care that you provide. Something really exciting to celebrate for the final day of convention is that it is open to everyone and focuses on quality. We had 30 facilities that applied for our grant and were approved by CMS. For these facilities, if you’re traveling more than 100 miles we’ll pay for your hotel for two people, your mileage, and if you have a nurse that can’t come all week, make sure and bring them because it will be free for them. These benefits are due to a grant that we applied for that was approved for $407,000. This is going to help these 30 facilities improve quality over the next 3 years. We will track their measure of rehospitalizations, fall reductions, employee retention, and other factors. We will have a quarterly check in and review their goals and see how they’re doing. Every one of these facilities will get 3 hours a month, for 3 years with Rebecca Evans. She is very familiar with Idaho. She teaches our DNS and Assisted Living Nurse and Administrator classes. She will go to these facilities QAPI meetings and do everything she can to help them. We are appreciative of Health and Welfare and CMS for this grant. Everything that we do is about quality and helping facilities to improve. Thank you for participating in these grants! They are all about improving your care and helping you through these tough times. So, come to convention and let’s collaborate, celebrate, and support each other. Have you signed up yet for the Keith Holloway Golf Classic held in conjunction with the Idaho Health Care Association Annual convention? It will be held July 15th at the Eagle Hills Golf Course. The Keith Holloway Golf Classic is an annual fundraiser that raises money for scholarships for honorary recipients currently working in health care, and who are returning to school to further their education and improve their lives. Keith and Delta Holloway operated nursing facilities in Idaho and surrounding states for many years. Besides operating their own facilities, they were valued consultants and assisted many facilities in navigating financial or operational challenges. IHCA honors Keith’s legacy by naming our annual golf tournament after him. We are so grateful for Keith and the amazing contributions he has added to our industry throughout the years!! Our Executive Director, Robert Vande Merwe, had the opportunity to interview Donna Larkin, Author of “Enduring: A Story of Love, Dementia, and Lessons Learned.” Larkin shares a chronology of her husband’s Alzheimer’s disease and her caregiving approaches, including those gleaned from her support-group friends and experts she met along the way. The book is an honest, loving, and unflinching portrait of caregiving. Enduring draws on nine years’ worth of notes, emails, and journal pages written while full-time caregiving at home and while later helping to transition her husband into a memory-care facility. It is a chronicle of the couple’s journey from diagnosis to passing. Her stories—with vulnerability, straight talk, and good humor—uniquely illustrate what it means to be a full-time caregiver for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. Donna will be a guest speaker at our upcoming 2024 Annual Convention, held July 16th-18th at the Boise Centre. Her session will be held July 17th at 3:15pm. We are excited to have her join us!
