IEEE R10 Students, Young Professionals, Women In Engineering and Life Members (SYWL) Congress 2024 I’m delighted to be invited and participated as a 'representative' of IEEE EMBS SAC to the IEEE R10 SYWL Congress 2024, which will be held from August 29th to September 1st at the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center, Tokyo, Japan. The Congress theme, ‘#Collaborative_Leadership_Beyond_Various_Boundaries', made me ecstatic and energized to attend in person. We, SAC team became aware of this Congress based on the recommendation of IEEE President Elect, Kathleen Kramer during our Students and Young Professionals Reception event within EMBC 2024. Along with my current role as IEEE EMBS SAC Professional Development Portfolio Chair 2024, I have the following objectives for the Congress : (1) to expand the reach and impact of the IEEE EMBS SAC Professional Development Portfolio by partnering with other organizations, institutions, and industry leaders to offer joint programs, co-branded events, and other collaborative initiatives, and to receive feedback on our initiatives; (2) to perform the promotion of EMBS SAC and its initiatives to the wider IEEE community in Asia-Pacific; (3) to make an overall stronger linkage with IEEE Thus, I will share IEEE EMBS SAC’s initiative with the title “IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society SAC Initiatives for Society” at the poster session on August 31st. On August 29th, I will also join 'Career and Leadership Aid Program (CLAP)', chaired by Dr. Aishwarya Bandla, Chair at IEEE Region 10 Young Professionals and I will have a chance to meet with IEEE students, Young Professionals, IEEE Women in Engineering members, and life members from Region 10. I do want to express my deep gratitude to the IEEE President Kathleen Kramer for her encouragement during our meeting at the EMB Conference 2024. The latest publication in IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering is exploring possibilities with Parkinson's disease! Researchers have explored using deep learning on IMU data to classify freezing of gait (FOG) in Parkinson’s disease. Their model achieved an F1 score of 0.78, successfully distinguishing between trembling and akinesia. This study highlights the potential of deep learning to enhance FOG assessment and encourages future research with larger cohorts.
