#Carbon_Credit in #CIV 🌍📜 Great news for carbon project developers! In April 2024, IFDC Côte d'Ivoire hosted an open door event where we led a panel discussion on carbon footprint. Today, we are pleased to learn that the Council of Ministers has adopted the decree establishing the Carbon Market Office in Côte d'Ivoire, making the country one of the first in Africa to take this significant step towards accessing the carbon market. The panel included members of the fertilizer private sector in Côte d'Ivoire. This development indicates that we are on the right track and can anticipate positive changes.

The average fertilizer usage in Africa rose from 8.0 Kg/Ha in 2006 to 42.5 Kg/Ha in 2019, then decreased to 34.5 Kg/Ha in 2022 amid the recent fertilizer crisis with rising prices and limited availability. The Abuja Declaration set a goal of 50 Kg/Ha, but national averages can be misleading due to varied country usage and complexities in data collection. Comprehensive datasets, including production, trade, and crop-specific use, are needed and initiatives like AfricaFertilizer aim to provide detailed and accurate data to better inform policy and private sector decisions.
