Navigating the Scale-Up Challenge ⬆ Ever wonder what it really takes to move from a pilot or #MVP to successful, wide-scale impact? It’s not just about doing more of the same—it’s about making smart adjustments and planning from the very start. We recently had an amazing workshop where Dr. Rinat Itzhaki of the מכון הנרייטה סאלד zold Institute for Social and Educational ventures, shared their #ScaleUp model . impact.51 has teamed up with them to adapt this model for #impact #startups, as many stumble at precisely  this critical stage. During the workshop, we dug into real #startup stories, learning from failures—because, let’s face it, there’s no better teacher! We took inspiration from the successes of athletes in the #Olympics, especially our Israeli athletes, who showed that #scaling up requires a blend of skills, strategy, and resilience. The entrepreneurs got hands-on tools, like a diagnostic tool to spot strengths and weaknesses, helping them map their path to a successful scale-up. To succeed in scaling up, it's crucial to grasp the entire #ecosystem that supports your venture. This means understanding the resources, connections, and market dynamics that will impact your growth. Setting clear goals and #KPIs is essential, as these metrics help track progress and identify areas for improvement. Without measurement, it's impossible to manage and optimize your scaling efforts effectively. The key is to be proactive and strategic, using these insights to drive sustainable success. The energy was incredible, and the insights were eye-opening. We’re super excited to keep refining this game-changer model together with Dr. Yitzhaki and the Szold Institute so it can become a must-have tool for anyone in the impact space, ready to scale up. This is especially true in women's health, where financial sustainability is crucial for success. We had the privilege of hearing from David Farber, an expert on #reimbursement in the American healthcare system, who recently delivered a brilliant lecture to our entrepreneurs at impact.51. Additionally, we participated in his workshop at @MHealth, where he provided invaluable insights into this complex landscape. #Reimbursement mechanisms form the financial backbone of the healthcare system, determining how providers are paid for their services. They involve a complex network of codes, standards, and regulations that ensure adequate compensation, fostering #innovation and improving patient outcomes. In women's health, understanding these mechanisms is essential for developing sustainable solutions. Key takeaways & insights: * Informing Investors about FDA Approval Timelines: communicate to investors that obtaining FDA approval and subsequent coverage can take 3-5 years, requiring extensive data collection and process navigation. * Understanding Coding and Coverage: coding is the language of reimbursement. While obtaining a code is essential, it’s not enough on its own. Coverage, which ties coding to payment, is also necessary. It's challenging to get reimbursement for innovations that don't require FDA approval. Accurate coding with ICD and CPT codes maximizes reimbursement and streamlines billing. * Stakeholder Engagement: For women's health ventures, recognizing and aligning with financial stakeholders—insurance companies, government programs, and patients—is vital for adoption and scalability. Value-Based Care Models: Emphasizing patient outcomes and cost-effectiveness makes innovations more attractive to payers. * Advocacy for Women's Health: Promoting the inclusion of women's health issues within reimbursement frameworks highlights the unique needs and benefits of innovations in this field. * Long-Term Planning: Securing coverage for new technologies can take several years, so it's important to have a robust plan for data collection and approval processes. By understanding reimbursement mechanisms and codes, women's health innovations can be both groundbreaking and financially viable, leading to better healthcare outcomes and advancing the healthcare ecosystem. Younis, Ofra Ash, highlighting different angles of this vital subject. 📊 The numbers speak for themselves: - Only 8 out of 100 entrepreneurs are women. - They secure a mere 2% of venture capital funds. - Only 12% of VC partners are women. - Only 8% of founders and CEOs are women. - Women account for just 5% of exits. 🔍 Studies show that companies focusing on gender equity outperform their peers. #Womenled businesses generate a 35% higher return on investment and a 12% increase in revenue compared to those run by men. Additionally, companies with women in senior roles excel in achieving economic goals, #impact, and business results. Diverse and #inclusive companies thrive. Michal’s presentation emphasized women’s health and the role of impact.51 as a category leader in this field. She questioned: how can 51% of the population be a niche? #Women’shealth has received less than 2% of total health #investment. Even in 2024, women remain largely absent from most clinical research, and treatments are still based on male standards. Yet, what started as a small niche is now growing rapidly, projected to be a $100 billion industry by 2030. Women’s health #startups have flourished recently, and the market is expected to grow by 10.2%-12.0% annually over the next five years. Addressing these disparities by developing gender-specific health solutions presents a massive economic opportunity. Closing the gaps in women’s health could drive substantial #economicgrowth, boost the #FemTech sector, and create a more equitable world. We absolutely need to get there. In a world where #technology and #personalization are advancing rapidly, #womenshealth is lagging behind.  Shockingly, only 2% of healthcare venture funding is directed toward women's health, despite women comprising 51% of the population and controlling 85% of healthcare spending decisions. The field remains under-researched, under-innovated, and under-funded, with a significant lack of #gender-specific data. However, #FemTech holds massive market potential. According to a McKinsey report, closing the gaps in women's health could unlock a $1 trillion opportunity, improving lives and the economy, and helping 3.9 billion women live healthier, better-quality lives. What began as a niche market is now growing at a double-digit CAGR, projected to be a $100 billion industry by 2030. Investing in women's health is not just a moral imperative; it's good business! An insightful meeting at Google with the DatA-IL Innovation community we took part in underscored the critical role of #data in understanding and monitoring mental #resilience. The talented young researchers from the Future Scientists Center showcased innovative methods for identifying #trends in #mentalhealth. Imagine that we could look at Spotify data to reveal national moods, or make reservists more aware of and better utilize their entitled benefits. This meeting highlighted the urgent need for robust, diverse datasets to develop effective mental health models and solutions. It also served as a catalyst for fostering collaborations in the field. The lack of #gender-specific data in mental health, and women's health overall, was a key focus and represents a significant gap. Addressing this gap with high-quality, representative data is crucial for making meaningful progress.
