Inspiring the next generation 💙. Habiba Zafar has two years left of medical school and has just finished a six-week placement with us in plastics and reconstructive surgery. “I was able to meet an outstanding team of medical professionals, assist in diverse and complex surgeries, and attend weekly multidisciplinary team clinics, consisting of plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and oncologists who helped develop my skills and expand my knowledge about various types of skin cancers. “I also had the privilege of visiting the plastics department at St Mary’s Hospital, where I gained invaluable experience in trauma care. “A special thank you to my supervisor, Dr Jonathan Dunne, consultant plastic surgeon, for his exceptional guidance and mentorship throughout this elective, and a very heartfelt thank you to both teams at Charing Cross and St Mary’s for their mentorship and collaboration. This journey has been an incredible learning experience, filled with hands-on practice and exposure to advanced surgical techniques. As I look forward to the future, I am excited to apply the skills and knowledge I’ve gained during my placement.” All the best with your next steps Habiba! #WeAreTheNHS #FutureGeneration #WorkExperience NHS England

About us
We are Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in England. Our more than 15,000 staff provide acute and specialist care for over 1.3 million patients a year from our five hospitals in west London – St Mary’s, Hammersmith, Charing Cross, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea and Western Eye. We also offer private healthcare in dedicated facilities on all our sites. With our academic partner Imperial College London, we run the NHS’s biggest biomedical research centre, translating research breakthroughs into new diagnostics and treatments. This builds on our hospitals’ long track record of innovation, benefiting our local communities as well as patients around the world. We are also a major provider of education and training for doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. We came together in a formal partnership with our three neighbouring acute trusts in 2022 to form the North West London Acute Provider Collaborative, to make the most effective use of our collective resources to provide better care, for more people, more fairly. We live by our values of being kind, expert, collaborative and aspirational and as well as our vision of better health, for life. Our Trust is a place where you can truly be yourself, whatever your background. We offer a wide range of career paths as well as opportunities to learn and develop, allowing you to achieve your best and make a real impact for patients and local communities. Rhian was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in April 2022. About 7,400 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year. This Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, Rhian wants to share her story to inspire others. “I successfully completed three rounds of chemotherapy and was told I would need three more before I could be operated on. I got a second opinion from the amazing Professor Christina Fotopoulou at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and was operated on at Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea hospital in September 2022. I went on to have more chemotherapy and treatment back home in Wales, but I am now in remission. “The treatment I received has given me my life back – literally. New drugs, diagnosis methods and treatments are being pioneered every day, thanks to the innovative research being carried out by Professor Fotopoulou, her team, and others around the world.” Find out more about this research ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eWec2aCt Read our blog with Professor Fotopoulou ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGhgkZC6 #OvarianCancer #Cancer #GynaecologicalCancer #GynaecologicalCancerAwarenessMonth

"One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been the opportunity to educate both colleagues and patients about cultural practices that may differ from the mainstream. "Whether it’s explaining the significance of dietary restrictions during specific festivals or advocating for the inclusion of alternative therapies that resonate with a patient’s cultural beliefs, these moments have underscored the importance of cultural sensitivity in providing truly holistic care." The theme for East and South East Asian Heritage Month is 'Changing seasons'. Here, Fraya Nebrija, junior sister at St Mary’s hospital, shares the challenges of blending her cultural heritage and professional practice.
