Civil construction offers a career LADDER for those who want to grow!

Speed kills in construction work zones, and after years of effort by Indiana's transportation construction industry and policymakers, INDOT's Indiana Safe Zones speed control program is now up and running. AND it appears to be getting the job done! Trenton Knox graduated from Purdue University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in building construction management with a focus on demolition. He started his 16-year career with E&B Paving, LLC right out of college as a project superintendent. In 2014 he transitioned into an estimator/project manager role where he helped secure numerous multimillion dollar projects in the NE corner of the state. Then in 2022 he moved into the role as operations manager of the Fort Wayne Area where he manages several facets of the daily operations including job and crew schedules. Knox currently resides with his wife and two children (ages 11 and 13) in rural Steuben County where he is the fourth generation to live on the family farm. He helps his family manage a small beef cattle operation of Polled Herefords and volunteers his time as Beef Barn Superintendent at the Steuben County 4-H Fair where his children show livestock. Knox and his family attend church regularly at Fairview Missionary Church in Angola.

Today, #SafeZoneIN cameras are live in our I-70 Design Build Project in Hancock County, Indiana. The cameras document motorist who are driving 11 mph or more above the speed limit. A pre-enforcement warning period will take place for 30 days. When the grace period is over, first-time violators will be mailed a warning notice. Second-time offenders will receive a $75 civil penalty. Third-time violators and beyond will receive a $150 penalty each time. In 2023, 33 people were killed and more than 1,750 were injured in work zones. Speed continues to be a factor in many of those crashes that are high impact, involve injuries and fatalities. With the launch of this program, we can hold drivers accountable for slowing down when traveling in a work zone. Preparing future leaders begins with equipping them with the necessary skills to succeed. Recently, the 2024 ICLI class dedicated a day to learning more about the financial aspects of the industry. The day was packed with information, questions, and networking opportunities, covering topics from benchmarking to cash flow. A special thanks to Dr. John Killingsworth, an associate professor from CSU Department of Construction Management, for sharing his time and expertise. We are also grateful to the CBIZ Somerset team for hosting the event and providing excellent lessons.
