This past week, the LDVA team attended the National Association of State VA Directors (NASDVA) in Indianapolis. To say the week was incredible is an understatement, and frankly, was one my favorite TDY’s ever. The real value of this conference was the opportunity to talk to our fellow directors and partners about how each of us are taking care of our veteran communities. There are so many people doing great things for our veterans and it’s awesome to be a part of this association. Simply put, Dennis Wimer and his Indiana team did an amazing job and this conference will be talked about for years to come. On a personal note, Dennis and his team arranged for all the state directors to have a inscribed brick at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. All I can say to Dennis is thank you; it was truly humbling and more than I ever deserved. A member of my team, Larry Williams, MPA, PHR, received national recognition from DepSec Tanya Bradsher for his efforts in taking care of a veteran who was having difficulty accessing medical care related to her cancer diagnosis. I had the honor to be a part of panel that updated the association on current legal issues at the state level related to those who assist vets with their benefits. The team also met American heroes, Jessica Lynch, and Medal of Honor recipient Sammy Lee Davis, whose book, “You Don’t Lose ‘Til You Quit Trying,” has resonated with me since I finished his read. We also learned from Marianne Delatorre what the Elizabeth Dole Foundation is doing for the caregivers of veterans, through its Hidden Heroes initiative, as well as the Military Women’s Memorial mission in recording the history of women veterans. Finally, the team attended a spectacular Indiana Fever WNBA game, where Caitlin Clark broke an WNBA record. Again, an absolutely wonderful TDY. One more note: STVLP is everywhere! Great seeing Angela Neal, MBA, PMP Jeffrey Cereghino, and John Boerstler at the conference. No rest for the weary….American Legion and Catholic War Veterans of the United States of America National Conferences in New Orleans next week! #veterans, #airforcejag, #louisiana Jerome Buller, MD, MBA, MS, CPE, FACOG, FACHE, John Phillips, Brandee Patrick, Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, Connor Junkin, Dustin Guy, George W.
