25th Anniversary
WHEREAS, The IACCGH was founded in 1999 by a group of local Indo-American businessmen and professionals, who came together and worked with the guidance of the Consul General of India in Houston to address an increasing need to educate the local businesses and the Indo-American community at large about the India ‘Advantage’ and doing business with India; and
WHEREAS, The Founding Board consisted of Dr Durga Agrawal, President, Jagdip Ahluwalia, Secretary and Jitu Shah, Treasurer. Since its founding 25 years ago, the IACCGH has since then evolved into a vehicle of economic empowerment for local businesses, educating and enabling minority business owners to understand and benefit from programs targeted at small and medium enterprises. The Chamber also provides access to doing business with the local Indo-American community and to the largest emerging middle-class market in the world - India; and
WHEREAS, Under the current leadership of Rajiv Bhavsar, President, Ashok Garg, Secretary, Rimple Mashruwala, Treasurer and Jagdip Ahluwalia, Executive Director, the chamber focuses on growing local jobs by encouraging exports to India and on bilateral trading opportunities including highlighting the Houston advantage - Port Houston, Houston Airport System, the medical, healthcare, energy and technology sectors; and
WHEREAS, On this 25th anniversary of its founding, the Chamber’s efforts have stayed true to its mission of facilitating commerce between the U.S. & India; facilitating access to the Indo-American market, being the voice of the Indo-American Business Community and enabling Greater Houston Professionals, Businesses, and Corporations to succeed. The IACCGH is an inclusive partner with the community, and works closely with local elected officials, government agencies, area chambers of commerce, economic development agencies and small, medium and large businesses to deliver meaningful programs for the benefit of the local business community. These efforts have led to many business success stories as well as India moving up the ranks to be the ninth largest trading partner for Houston; and
WHEREAS, We celebrate the diversity of our city and our economy. The City of Houston congratulates the IACCGH for 25 years of connecting people and promoting business.
THEREFORE, I, John Whitmire, Mayor of the City of Houston, hereby proclaim July 16, 2024, as
Indo-American Chamber of Commerce
of Greater Houston Day
25th Anniversary
in Houston, Texas.
