As we continue celebrating this year’s Olympics, let’s highlight another historic milestone for women in sports and the workplace: Title IX. Passed in 1972, Title IX was a groundbreaking legislation that prohibited sex-based discrimination in any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. Today, its impact is still profound. For women in sports: Title IX created countless opportunities for female athletes to train, compete, and excel. It significantly increases female participation and supports many in reaching the Olympics. According to the Women’s Sports Foundation, female participation has grown by ✨1057%✨ at the high school level and by ✨614%✨ at the college level since Title IX was passed as of 2022. For women in the workplace: Title IX paved the way for greater gender equality in education and supports women to pursue careers and leadership positions in fields traditionally dominated by men. According to the National Organization for Women, only 9% of women in 1972 earned a four year degree. In 2018, women earned 57% of all bachelors degrees, 61% of all master’s degrees, and 54% of all doctoral degrees. Today, more women are stepping into leadership roles, from Olympic medalists to CEOs. On this day, 62 years ago, a Detroit Free Press headline proclaimed, “New Women’s Club a Reality.” It was then, in 1962, that the founders of the Women’s Economic Club (WEC) - Marie Moon, Alice Snider, Thelma Murrell, Dorothy Seifert, and 19 others - forged the path to what today is Inforum. Their goal: To break down institutional and legal barriers to women’s success. In doing that work, they also improved their companies and communities. Today, because of their work and those who followed them, we are supported by more than 7,500 members - women and men - and more than 200 companies committed to women leading and succeeding. We look back on our beginning with pride and gratitude for the women who started it all - and forward with thanks to those who continue their work. #inforum #seewhatspossible #gettherefaster #womenshistory #womensleadership #leadership #economicclub #inspiration

As you watch the Olympics, remember this inspiring fact: For the first time ever, the Summer Games will see an equal number of men and women competing. Coincidentally, when Paris first hosted the games in 1900, it was the first year women could compete and fewer than 3% of athletes were women. Media coverage, viewers, and social media recognition come with this achievement, yet there’s something bigger behind it: Women’s leadership. According to UN Women, women are taking on more leadership roles in the sports world, driving policy and increasing investments. 41% of International Olympic Committee members are women, doubling since 2013. The number of women on the World Athletics Council has grown from eight members to 13, achieving gender parity four years ahead of schedule. 80% of female Fortune 500 CEOs played sports in their formative years. We love to see this progress! Inforum’s vision is developing a culture that embraces women leaders. Our staff, our corporate investors, our members, and our board of directors are working to do our part to increase opportunities for women across many professions. So while we cheer on our Olympians, we also will be cheering on the women who demanded a seat at the table. #inforum #seewhatspossible #gettherefaster #womenssports #olympics #womensleadership #womeninsports 📸: Getty Images

Time well spent last week at Inforum’s staff retreat! ❤️ As always, this annual event is a way to take a step back and talk about how we can continue to improve how we serve the individuals and companies who support us in our mission of accelerating women’s careers individually and through helping companies build their talent pipelines. Special thanks to our staff members who traveled to attend: Kristen Linegar Mercer from Florida and Becky Wood and Darlene O'Neal, from Grand Rapids. We’re excited for what’s to come, so stay tuned! ✨ #inforum #seewhatspossible #gettherefaster #teambonding #retreat #leadership #professionaldevelopment

👑 ✨ Thank You, Maggie Varney and the Wigs4Kids Team! ✨ 👑 Last night, we had an amazing Inforum connections event where our members and guests learned about Wigs4Kids incredible work. This organization provides wigs and support services at no charge to children and young adults experiencing hair loss due to cancer, alopecia, trichotillomania, burns, and other disorders. We enjoyed a delightful tea party, complete with tiaras and Maggie's delicious "secret recipe" tea. It was a night filled with inspiration and camaraderie! ☕ If you know someone who could benefit from this fantastic organization or if you are looking to donate hair, please contact Wigs4Kids today!

Inforum is a nonprofit organization that accelerates careers for women and is a catalyst that removes barriers and increases opportunity. We met Anna from Inforum at the Women Thrive Conference earlier this year and were chosen as a host site for their membership meeting last night! Members enjoyed a presentation from our Founder & CEO, Maggie Varney, a tour of our facility, learned about our Maggie's Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan program and opportunities for involvement. We concluded the evening with a chance for them to experience what it means to be a kid here by enjoying a tea party in our Enchanted Tea Room! Thank you, Inforum!

Sometime in the not too distant future, the National Mall will be home of the Smithsonian American Women's History Museum -- its first dedicated to women -- thanks to some high powered leaders in Michigan working with others to raise awareness and help bring it to life. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF MICHIGAN WOMEN! https://lnkd.in/eYxCCECk
