Can it really be 10 years? In 2013, I attended my first Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN) Community on Transition Conference at Penn State University with my colleagues from Cheltenham School District. That year, I chose a break-out session led by Allie Smale about social capital and the rest is history! I learned about the importance of the social determinants of health and the devastating impact of loneliness. Long before Covid. I came home and with Gary Weinberg's incredible support, decided to go back to school while working full-time and raising two little girls. I was hungry to learn more, so I applied to Temple University to pursue my doctoral degree. At this same conference in 2015, I found out I was accepted to Temple University College of Public Health. I was going back to school! I combined my #occupationaltherapy coursework with a certificate program at the Fox School of Business at Temple University in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. All at once, my passion for this work grew beyond measure. In 2016, and during the years following, I shared my research at the Transition conference. More importantly, I learned from fellow researchers and leaders in the disability arena across Pennsylvania and the entire country. In 2019, I shared about Integrate for Good for the first time at this conference, and shared about our new programs year after year. And then came 2024. This time, I had the opportunity to share that after a whole lot of hustle, integrate for Good would be moving into our first home the day I returned from Penn State! This conference launched my research and set me on a trajectory that the "me" in 2014 would never have believed. But then again, maybe she knew she was heading somewhere amazing. And I feel like I'm just beginning. What an honor to share the conference this year with my brand new Program Director, Erin Black!
