Our Mexicali site recently hosted Semana de la Excelencia—Excellence Week—which celebrated our collective commitment to continuous improvement. Throughout the week, employees heard success stories from their fellow team members, attended workshops on problem-solving, project management, and played games to practice continuous improvement techniques. Operational Excellence Engineer Mayra Ceballos, a member of the event’s organizing committee, summed up why the week meant so much to her and the entire team: “It’s the culmination of all our continuous improvement projects and an opportunity to celebrate the team members who strive to make our work easier and more efficient. Nothing inspires belief in the potential for robotic-assisted surgery quite like putting your head into the surgeon console and experiencing it for yourself. We were thrilled to be able to donate a da Vinci Si to the Seoul Robot & AI Museum, which recently opened in South Korea. Visitors to the Intuitive exhibition hall will be able to experience the surgical system through activities and simulations in a recreated operating room setting. For over 25 years, our belief that minimally invasive care is life-enhancing care has led us to where we are today. As our journey continues, we’re excited for opportunities to offer the public a chance to discover the incredible potential of da Vinci firsthand.

You’re never too young to learn about lung cancer, or the innovative technologies that help enable clinical confidence to get early answers and accelerate lung cancer program impact. Here we are with our friends at Breathe Southern California, as we live that principle. We also brought our Thoracic Oncology Mobile Experience (TOME) along for the ride. TOME is more than just a truck. It’s a purpose-built experience designed to advance the awareness of how Intuitive technologies help get earlier answers for lung cancer patients. Screening for lung cancer is critical. Knowledge is critical. Not just in California, but also across the U.S. That’s why we put TOME on wheels—so we can take our experience where it’s needed. One of the most exciting things about working at Intuitive is our growing global presence. Though our roots are in Silicon Valley, California, our mission of bringing minimally invasive care to all communities means constantly expanding our reach. At this moment, we’re building new sites in several countries, including in Parvomay, Bulgaria, where construction is underway on a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant. The team there will increase our capacity to make endoscopes for Intuitive’s da Vinci robotic surgery systems. We’re excited to hire for assembly and engineering roles that will not only allow people to grow meaningful careers in their home country, but impact people’s lives around the world. When Dr. Arnold Advincula was asked what makes him passionate about da Vinci surgery, he said, “I never lose sight of the fact that it’s just a privilege that people entrust you with performing surgery—and that’s where da Vinci has been transformative.”   In our new Surgeon Spotlight series, we’re exploring the world of robotic surgery through the eyes of some of the most skilled and knowledgeable physicians in the world. Up next, Dr. Arnold Advincula—a pioneer of minimally invasive robotic surgery who first used the Intuitive da Vinci system 22 years ago and has helped develop its application across the gynecologic specialty.

“I truly believe I have an influence on allowing surgeons to provide better patient care. I’ve had surgeons look at me and say, ‘I could not have done this without the da Vinci.’” Commercial Learning Manager Anthony Harris’ career began on a basketball court. He played college and then professional basketball before a back injury changed his path—and led him to Intuitive. As a surgical patient, Anthony understood the power of minimally invasive care to transform lives. Outside of work, Anthony leads a “typical America, super busy” lifestyle he loves with his wife and two sons. At Intuitive, Anthony trains our Commercial team on the innovative technology that advances minimally invasive care around the world. “We make amazing tech,” Anthony says. “But it’s the why behind it. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in America, claiming more than 357 lives every day. At Intuitive, we want to help physicians shorten the patient's journey from lung cancer concern to care. That’s why we launched the Impact of Knowing—an initiative dedicated to providing education to help patients understand their options and know what to expect. Because when we’re talking about people with lung cancer, we’re talking about our family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. They’re people like Paula, who went through years of worry and inconclusive tests on a lung nodule before her journey led her to a biopsy with Intuitive's Ion robotic bronchoscopy system. Although the diagnosis was not the one she wanted, she got the answers she needed and a care plan to move forward on her path to recovery. Watch and share Paula’s story.
