From navigating the complexities of finance to securing a prestigious internship with Goldman Sachs, Chad Kennedy is one of IC’s Success Stories. Chad Kennedy's journey began in Fall 2022 when he started as a finance major at the Muma College of Business. Early on, he joined the Investment Club as a general member, eager to attend events, network, and explore the financial ecosystem. With a passion for business, Chad dove deep into reading books like The Intelligent Investor and Value Investing. However, it was private markets that truly captured his interest, with their long-term focus and perceived simplicity compared to public markets. In Spring 2023, Chad joined the Global Investment Research Team of the Investment Club at USF. That same semester, Chad took on a double major in Mathematics, which later proved to be beneficial when applying for roles—banks view STEM majors with a passion for finance as an asset. As he progressed, his networking efforts ramped up significantly. Also, each semester his hard work paid off as he was promoted within IC—from GIR Associate to GIR Analyst, and eventually to Senior Analyst and now to Vice President for the 2024 – 2025 academic year. Recognized for his dedication, Chad was also invited to join IC’s exclusive Recruitment Cohort, the predecessor of the Placement Division. This opportunity opened doors to internships with Tampa firms, leading to an interview and a growth equity internship at Ballast Point Ventures. Chad leveraged this experience to land interviews with a private equity firm, Dubin Clark, where an IC Alumnus worked as an Analyst. Networking with this analyst led to multiple rounds of interviews, ultimately resulting in an offer for a Spring 2024 internship. While interning at Dubin Clark, Chad applied to hundreds of internships, including some with major firms like Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and more. Despite the fierce competition, he secured countless interviews and made it to four Superdays — three with Goldman Sachs and one with a commodity trading firm in Houston. As a result from two successful Superdays, Chad received offers from GS XIG PE (Goldman Sachs External Investing Group Private Equity) and the Houston trading shop. He will join Goldman Sachs in Summer 2025! #OurSuccessStories #InvestmentClubatUSF #GoldmanSachs

Among his viable advice to advance our career, there is one that stands out most: “Find people that are at places that you want to be, then learn from them.“ Next week, we will be hosting John Beacham, CEO and Founder of Toorak Capital Partners, for our event. Join us at BSN 225 on Monday, April 15th at 7 PM. We will be hosting John Beacham, CEO and Founder at Toorak Capital Partners. After a successful 20-year career at leading financial institutions like Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank and as founder of a Blackstone-sponsored single family rental lending platform, John Beacham identified a massive discrepancy between the financing available for homeowners looking to buy housing to live in and the financing available for small businesses looking to buy houses and small apartments needing rehab work. To address this need, he founded Toorak Capital Partners, a leading funding partner for real estate lenders. Toorak has since provided over $10 billion in capital to fund business purpose single family, multifamily and mixed-use bridge and term loans originated by top loan originators in the U.S. and U.K. We will be serving Chick-fil-A meal boxes and drinks.
